Laura Mercier Artist's Palette for Eyes

I certainly didn't need another eyeshadow palette, but seeing as how the Laura Mercier Artist's Palette for Eyes is one of the most talked about makeup releases this season, I simply couldn't resist.

This is the second version of the Artist's Palette, and although I wouldn't be able to get my hands on last year's version even if I wanted to, this year's shades are much more up my alley. Neutrals with a few pops of purple? I'm sold.

The palette contains twelve 0.03 oz eyeshadows and retails for $48, which makes each shadow worth just $4. Can you say crazy good deal? To compare, Laura Mercier's single eyeshadows each contain 0.09 oz of product and retail for $23.

Close-up of the packaging

In general, all the shades are of really great quality - smooth, long-lasting, pigmented and blendable. The textures of a few of the shades like African Violet, Kir Royal and Primrose seem just slightly inferior to others, like Truffle, which is unimaginably silky and buttery, but the palette certainly does not contain any duds.

Half of the shades are matte (Plum Smoke, Violet Ink, Vanilla Nuts, Fresco, Truffle and Espresso Bean), while the others have varying degrees of shimmer (African Violet and Bamboo being the most shimmery). There is a fairly good mix of lighter and darker shades and neutrals and color, which makes the palette incredibly versatile. Day and night looks are equally attainable with the selection of shades included in this palette.

Today, I'm wearing the first five shadows in the bottom row - Primrose all over the lid, Fresco through the crease, Bamboo and Truffle on the outer third of the lid, and Vanilla Nuts on the brow bone.

If the shades in this year's Artist's Palette are your cup of tea, you really can't go wrong with having this beauty in your collection. It's an excellent deal, and the quality of the shadows is fantastic.

For those who are able to partake in Sephora's VIB sale that ends tomorrow, online stock of the Artist's Palette seems to have been depleted several days ago, but I would recommend checking in stores. My local Sephora had at least three palettes still in stock when I checked earlier today - Good luck!

Laura Mercier Artist's Palette for Eyes is available from Sephora (no longer online) for $48.

  1. the palette looks pretty great! i love the purple tones in this set but i have the LORAC palette already and it would be overdoing it to have both right?

  2. I need this.. And by "need" I mean I really want this! The shades are great. I own all the Naked palettes and I feel like these are different enough to justify buying it! I'm adding this to my birthday/Christmas wishlist! Thanks for the review!

  4. Your photos make this look extra stunning! I'm surprised by how much purple is in this palette, I hadn't realized that from other photos I've seen. I'm kind of obsessed with Bamboo

  6. Such a pretty palette! I inquired at the Australian Laura Mercier counter but we won't be getting this here, only the chunky dual decker clutch. :( May have to resort to getting it online. How would you rate it stacked against LORAC Pro and the UD palettes?

  8. Oh, my this is too gorgeous. Seeing swatches of the UD Naked 3, they both have quite a lot of purples, no? Ahh so torn.

  11. Oh my goodness! Those colors look so pretty! I love shadows that are a little pit of the pink side. Thanks for the review!

  13. Gorgeous on you Tiffany! I agree-its a steal! I think this is my favourite palette this year.

  14. I have both, so.......haha. No, but seriously, I can't really say. It probably depends more on how often you wear eyeshadow and how many different looks you're trying to be able to create with your palettes. If I had to choose one, I'd probably still go with LORAC Pro :)

  15. Haha, girl, I know what you mean by "need!" ;) I hope you get it for Christmas!

  16. It's definitely a pretty palette! :)

  17. Thanks, Catherine! I like the purple shades were what drove me to buy the palette. I think it makes an otherwise neutral palette that much more versatile. And Bamboo is such a great shade!

  18. I know :( Hopefully, they'll restock soon!

  19. Aww, that's such a bummer, Cherie! I'm sorry. Compared to LORAC Pro and the original Naked Palette (I don't have Naked 2), I'd choose LORAC Pro first, then probably LM Artist Palette, then UD Naked, just because there are two or three shades I don't wear much in the Naked palette. Hope that helps!

  20. You should definitely take a look if you can find it in store and see what you think! It might not be a must-have, especially if you already have a lot of other palettes :)

  21. Hmm...I've only seen one post on Naked 3 and it seemed quite pink, if I recall correctly, but I could be wrong! To be honest, I haven't been following the Naked 3 hype much, so I'm not positive on the shades and such.

  22. Thanks, Lindsay! Hopefully, they'll restock soon on Sephora.com.

  24. Thanks, Tracy! I think this has been the only palette I've purchased this year, so by default, it's my favorite too! Haha.

  26. You pretty pretty thing, Tiffany! I was in Taipei recently, but I don't think this is available there. Makes total sense that the Sephora stock has been drained though! It's great quality and gorgeous!

  28. Guh. This is one of those times I wish I lived in the US just so I could go to Sephora :p I wanted last year's and I want this year's but oh well! Both looks are lovely on you :)

  30. Brilliantly gorgeous plums. I always love these palettes especially around holiday seasons when they are at an even bigger discount than they already are. Great bargain buying for those of us who love high-end but don't really have the budget for it!

  49. Aww, bummer! What colors do you like to wear, Beth? I know a lot of people tend to steer clear of color in general (me included, although I do like purple shades!).
