Chanel Ombres Contraste Duo in Sable.

You know when a seemingly boring product/shade just takes you by surprise and knocks your socks off? That's what Chanel Ombres Contraste Duo in Sable did to me.

Sable consists of a warm, reddish brown and a peachy beige. The brown contains just the right amount of soft shimmer, while the beige has more of a pearl finish. Both shades are smooth and easy to work with. Others have said that while the duo is hardly revolutionary or exciting, it's also incredibly wearable and useful to have in one's collection, and I'd have to agree wholeheartedly.

Since acquiring it, I've worn it a ton but always in the same way. When it works, it just works, you know? I sweep the peachy beige shade all over the lid and apply the warm, reddish brown shade on top, just on the outer 1/2 of the lid, as well as to the lower lash line. Easy peezy.

I'm thinking on days when I might want a softer, barely-there type of look, dusting the beige shade all over the lid, MAC Wedge through the crease and using the brown shade as liner would be simple and equally as pretty.

Evidently, I thought I had done a much better job blending than I actually did. Fail.

I also went for a bit of winged liner today (Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner - LOVE this stuff!), but sometimes I'll opt for a tiny bit of black pencil liner for definition instead, and that tends to keep the eyes from looking too dramatic, especially for day time.

The rest of my makeup:
Hourglass Immaculate Foundation in Shell
Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder
Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner
Bourjois Délice de Soleil Bronzing Powder
NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss in Nude Peach
Illamasqua Blush in Hussy

Have you ever tried something that you thought would be a snooze, but it actually ended up becoming a staple in your collection?

Chanel Ombres Contraste Duo in Sable is available from Nordstrom for $42.

  4. i love the duo on you! i agree that sometimes the most seemingly boring products being staples (i actually get pretty excited for these "boring" shades haha), for me it's MAC's wedge and Bobbi Brown's Taupe eyeshadow :)

  9. Hey Tiffany, Sable is so pretty on you! I skipped because I thought I had way too many neutrals, but I totally understand how you sometimes bond unexpectedly with a piece!

  10. Ah, gorgeous! I have the duo in Misty and while I love the colour combo, I don't use it enough. I have to pull it out again... after I get sick of Dior Bonne Etoile :-)

  15. Love these kind of colours for everyday looks: simple and elegant. Furthermore, I can opt for bold lips without looking overdone :)

  16. This looks beautiful! This looks like a great basic palette and it might just be enough to get me interested in Chanel!

  18. You look so pretty :) I could probably toss out half of what I own if I got this duo because I realized I wear a look like this 90% of the time.

  19. i know what you mean. i'm always drawn to bright eyeshadows but what i really use everyday are the neutrals. some are just so warn and gorgeous but don't get enough attention when you're looking at all the colors together.

  20. Thanks, Catherine! I do too, but I love the convenience of having them in the same palette :) (That's my excuse!)

  24. Thank you so much! I thought the same thing when I swatched them in-store :)

  25. Thanks, Jessica! The SA did tell me that Sable has a smoother texture than most of the other duos :) I haven't tried Chanel eye shadows before though, so I can't really compare! I did swatch a few of their quads and thought they were meh.

  27. Thanks, Sunny! I'm sure I have dupes somewhere in my collection, but it's just so convenient having both shades in one place :)

  28. Ahhh, Dior Bonne Etoile. SO GORGEOUS. I dont' foresee you getting sick of that one for a while ;)

  29. Thank you so much, Chloe! When I look back at when I was still filling in my brows with brown powder, I can't help but cringe! It just didn't match my hair color at all. And yes, you should definitely use Hussy again! Every time I do, I fall in love with it all over again :)

  31. You and me both! I love that the beige has peachy undertones. I feel like it makes it more suitable as a lid shade rather than a highlight shade. I don't think I would've liked it as much if it was just a beige or champagne shade!

  32. Exactly! I love it for that reason as well :)

  33. You haven't been interested in Chanel before?? Haha, I kid. Sable is definitely a great basic to have in your collection though! :)

  34. Sounds like Sable would be worth the investment then ;)

  35. I agree! I'm always mesmerized by bright blues, purples, and greens, but I've learned not to buy shades like those because I never wear them. I prefer in investing in what I know I'll get a lot of use out of, like Sable :)

  36. What a lovely palette! I'll be honest with you, I've passed this by a million times because it just seems too plain. It's executed so well, though, I think I may have to treat myself when next I need a great neutral palette.

  37. I know what you mean, Jessica. It's definitely not a palette that makes you stop in your tracks by any means. I really had to swatch it to really appreciate how nice it was! :)

  38. i've noticed that there's something different about these contraste duos -- they're just a smidge more buttery than chanel's singles and quads. i picked up taupe and bleu when a few years and love them dearly. sable looks great on you :)

  39. Love the look of this! I'm debating whether I should get rid of some of the ridiculously big palettes that are barely used and just get a simple basic duo like this. Let me know when you hit pan on this. ;)

  40. Beautiful! Sometimes simple is best - it's good to stick with what you know and love, and after all, it's Chanel darrrhling.
