The Spring to Summer Transition: Face Products.

Now that we're just about halfway through spring and the weather is finally starting to warm up in my neck of the woods, I figured now would be as good a time as any to show you some of the products I'll be relying on to transition my spring face makeup routine into summer. Not to worry: I'll do a follow-up post with eye and lip products soon :)

A foundation with a light, natural finish that still allows my skin to show through will be my go-to during this transition period. A great option that fits the bill is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation (I have shade 3.0). However, since I'm currently using chemical exfoliants that can cause photosensivity and considering the sun has (thankfully) started peeking its head out on a much more regular basis, it'll be more important than ever for me to use SPF on my face, and I'll meet that requirement either by layering the La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid (I have the tinted version) under my non-SPF containing foundations or by wearing a base that already offers some sun protection, such as the Dior Diorskin Nude BB Creme in 002. The Dior BB Creme only contains SPF 10 though, so I'll most likely still opt for the La Roche-Posay underneath for extra protection.

To add a fresh luminosity to my complexion since I tend to find that my complexion looks extra dull and sallow at its palest (ie right now), I'll either mix in a pea-sized amount of the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone into my foundation, or use it on its own to highlight the high points of my face. For a bit of an added tan and glow, I might choose to prime my face with the Becca Bronzing Skin Perfector prior to applying my foundation.

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light will be a godsend since it perks up my complexion by adding an ultra-subtle glow with just a few sweeps of my brush, yet it also manages to set and perfect my foundation while extending the wear time, too.

In terms of bronzer, I'm really liking the Sonia Kashuk Undetectable Cream Bronzer in Warm Tan, a matte tan bronzer with a cream-to-powder finish. It looks much darker in the pan than it does swatched or blended into the skin and despite how dark it appears in these photos, it's definitely suitable for light to medium skin tones. Lastly, to add a punch of color to the apples of my cheeks, I've been loving the Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Color in Lush Nectarine, a beautiful peachy coral that is a welcomed change to the nude and berry shades I gravitated towards in the colder months.

What are some of the face products that will help you transition your routine from spring to summer?

  1. Great picks, Tiffany! I've been going for a lighter foundation (Bourjois Healthy Mix) and BB creams myself. I've even been reaching for bronzers more often! A pore-minimizing/oil-absorbing primer is also increasingly important (I use the Becca one for the moment)!

  2. eeeeeeeee such a great list of products! i LOVE the mineral tinted sunscreen in the summer i use that as a base alone bc it helps mattify with coverage and just add bronzer. all your primers make me jelous!! i want a new primer but i have so many unfort all (radiance aka shiny) :\ The SK bronzer looks dark, but a cream to powder bronzer from the drugstore is a nice change!!
Dim light has been on my wish list but i have been holding back, your posts on it always make me go....should i???? LOL

  3. I keep meaning to check out LM's Lush Nectarine but I always forget! Gah--have to write that down! It looks soooo pretty! Also curious about the Sonia Kashuk bronzer now too. I love Sonia Kashuk--such a great drugstore brand! :D

  5. I love transitioning to summer makeup! I do love everything here. I have never tried the Naked foundation though now it seems as though I might need to. I also love the Nectarine shade blush as I'm seeing it here, must swatch! Lovely picks as always <3 I personally play chemist with my foundations mixing up the perfect match. I love mixing my Fresh Umbrian Clay with Chanel Vitalumiere

  6. I'm very interested in the La Roche Posay sunscreen now, I have a bit of an obsession with sunscreens, lol! Thanks for sharing, I really love your picks, I bet you look so pretty and healthy with these! ^^ I'm still using the same face products but I'm currently looking for a better sunscreen :).

  9. I used the LRP sunscreen for the first time today and LOVED it. I was really surprised by how long it was able to keep my face matte since sunscreens normally make me really shiny. I didn't really see much coverage though despite the tint, but maybe it was because of the lighting in my room. So glad I got it!

Yeah, the SK bronzer looks really dark, but then when you use it, you can see that it's actually a lot lighter once you get past the top layer. Warm Tan is actually the lighter shade of the two they offer!

As for Dim Light, it IS a really nice powder, but do you need it? I'm not sure that it's a must-have to be honest, although I think you'd really like it, so it's hard to say. Sorry, not helpful at all! :-/ Maybe get it at Sephora and then return it if you use it and don't like it or don't think it's worth the money?

  10. Lush Nectarine is so gorgeous, Becca! I've been wanting it for about 2 years now after seeing Tanya Burr use it in one of her videos. So glad it's finally mine! And yeah, the SK is really nice! The color is almost identical to the Chanel Bronzing Base/Bronze Universel (whatever it's called).

  11. Hi Patricia, thanks so much for the kind comment! You should definitely try out some Becca products if you can - it seems to be one of those amazing brands that doesn't always get the credit it deserves :)

  12. I love mixing foundations too! I sometimes need to because the shades I have don't match me perfectly, but I also do it so I can control the finish and/or coverage. I've never tried the Fresh foundation, but I remember you saying it was being discontinued :( I'll be sure to include Lush Nectarine blush in a FOTD post soon and include a swatch! :)

  13. Hi Dovey, Becca Moonstone is such a great product and shade! I'm so glad people recommended it to me. I can't believe I waited so long to finally get it. And I actually stopped wearing the UD Naked foundation for the longest time because the shade I got was too light for me but I was too lazy to return/exchange it, but I guess I've become so pale now that it matches me finally!

  14. Thanks, Teri! I think I'll do a FOTD post with some of these products soon :) I only used the LRP sunscreen for the first time today, but literally, I LOVED it. I'm definitely going to need to review it once I've used it more. What are some facial sunscreens you like? I know this is terrible, but I never really used to use one at all...

  15. Yup that's the one! I know they have a couple of new ones now but I haven't tried.

  16. Second post today where I have seen the LRP sunscreen...must pick it up! I've started using my favorite sunless tanner, Fake Bake, again so I am changing my heavier winter foundation for my Missha BB Cream and MAC MSFN. I'm also trading my light bronzers for red or orange blushes to give me a more natural flush since my skin is tanner.

  17. I've been wearing UD Naked Skin lately (have it on today actually). It lasts longer than NARS Sheer Matte and I've needed every extra minute I can get out of my makeup lately. I pulled out TF Sweetheart's blush again, Tarte Blissful, and lots of bold lips. Revlon Coral Reef lipgloss is even making its way into regular use as I consider May to be almost summer :)

  18. Great idea for a post! I have switched out all my neutral and darker blushes for orangey toned, coral blushes! I welcome the change!

  19. These are great picks Tiffany! I'm really curious about the Dior BB cream, and the Laura Mercier blush, too!!

  20. Did the first post happen to come from J. from Lil Lady's Life? I vaguely recall her recommending the LRP sunscreen to me once upon a time, and I'm so glad I picked it up because I love it! Sounds like you've made some great changes to your routine as well :)

  21. I've never tried NARS Sheer Matte, but I'm kind of surprised the UD foundation lasts longer just because it doesn't seem like it would when you compare the finishes, but that's awesome that it does! Tarte Blissful look so pretty - the perfect spring to summer shade indeed :)

  22. Yay, me too! Do you happen to have NARS Taj Mahal? I've been thinking of getting that one for years now. I wonder if I should finally do it this summer...

  23. Thanks, Aly! They're both AMAZING products! I seriously don't think I could live without the BB Creme ;)

  24. I do have it! Reminds me that I should pull that out....I have so much blush I forget about what I have :X

  25. Is the sun lotion really thick at SPF 50? im thinking of picking up a face-specific sun lotion this year...

  26. Not at all. It's actually really thin and kind of watery if anything. I've used it the past few days and am loving it so far!

  27. Great picks, Tiffany! I'm crazily curious about the Hourglass powder, but it's not available here so I can't test which one's best on my skin. It might be a good thing >_<!

  28. I haven't used anything from Becca yet, but that primer is at the top of my list :)
At the moment I'm using all my bronzers and I have had to resort to my trusty MAC Blot powder again (the mix of humidity and oily skin is a pain!)

  29. You're welcome! I will as soon as I can. I live in Venezuela, where products are extremely hard to find. I travel frequently to the States which is where I get all of my makeup... but Becca just recently started re-launching their products in Sephora stores. Next time I go, I will get my hands on some. Thank you!
