I'm a believer in bronzer year-around, but I typically reach for more matte bronzers in the colder months and bronzers with shimmer or sheen in the summer. My Dior Matte Bronzer in 002 Honey Matte (I think it's discontinued?) is still my holy grail bronzer, but now that it's finally starting to get warm where I live, I've started using bronzers like NARS Laguna more and Dior Honey Matte less.
Cue mascara smudged on eyelid shot!
My go-to bronzer brush up until about a week ago was the Sigma F50 Duo Fibre brush, a dupe of the MAC 187. I know a lot of people don't reach for duo fibres for bronzer, but I find that it gives the perfect, light dusting of powder on top of the skin that can almost never look packed on, simply because the brush hairs are so separated and sparse. I find that when I use it, it takes barely any blending at all and harsh lines are non-existent. However, last week, I picked up the Real Techniques Powder Brush and I'm really starting to like it as well!
The Real Techniques Powder Brush is bigger than the Sigma F50, and the brush hairs are much, much more densely packed. With this brush, it is possible to pack on too much bronzer onto the brush and as a result, feel like you're stamping the bronzer onto your cheek before having to blend it all out. However, although it is fairly dense, it isn't too dense, and blending is still quite easy to do.

I can't say for sure which I like better for bronzer, to be completely honest. I like both of them, but for different reasons. I reach for the Sigma F50 more when I want a quick and light, no-fuss bronzer application, and I reach for the Real Techniques brush more when I want a slightly heavier bronzer application.
The two bronzers I've been reaching for more lately now that it's summer are NARS Laguna and Tarte Park Avenue Princess, especially the Tarte.

Tarte Park Avenue Princess is like the more orangey cousin of NARS Laguna, and it also packs more sheen. Keep in mind, the swatch above is quite a heavy swatch, and if you use a brush like a duo fibre to apply it, it doesn't come out nearly as metallic or orangey on the skin!
Today, I used my Real Techniques Powder Brush to apply Tarte Park Avenue Princess, and I used my trusty Dior Aurora bronzer as blush :) On my lips, I'm wearing the L'Oreal Colour Riche Colour Caresse lipstick in Blushing Sequin.
What's your favorite brush to use for bronzer?

The RT is definitely my favourite brush to apply blush/bronzer or foundation! They are insanely versatile!
ReplyDeleteoh i loved laguna! i used it non stop for years! then i went bronzer crazy i purchased too many im weeding through to go back to NARS but currently a bronzer i am LOVING is a YSL one which i will post about soon. The color is PERFECT
ReplyDeleteThe Tarte blush looks lovely! I've been wanting that, but I really CANNOT justify the purchase of another bronzer! Sigh.

Wow you look amazing! Those two colors are MADE for you! x
ReplyDeleteOh I have Tarte Park Avenue Princess and love it! ^_^
ReplyDeleteAnother post fueling my lemming for Laguna! I'm always on the fence about shimmer in bronzers tbh...but I do like shimmery blushes like Warm Soul so maybe I play on both teams ? lol
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the RT brush for bronzer - I haven't been 100% sure about it for powder so I may give it a shot :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat looks pretty on you! Did you ever get to see how you liked the new Dior bronzers? I'm sad that the matte ones appear to be discontinued too... I can' t decide on a favorite brush for bronzer, but I'd say the ones I use the most are the Trish McEvoy 2B Sheer Blush Brush and the Sephora IT Natural Foundation brush. Today I used the Too Faced Bronze-buki and the Ecotools angled blush brush and I liked that too! (I think I have way more cheek brushes than necessary lol)
ReplyDeleteI love my Nars Laguna, its one of my favorite! thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteit's winter in australia atm and i am STILL packing on the bronzer - so i completely agree with bronzer all year round =) i like to use the sigma F40 angled contour brush .. fits perfectly underneath my cheek bones.
ReplyDeleteNars Laguna is my favourite bronzer/contour shade atm! But I use a Sigma F25 Tapered Brush :) I really want to try out the Real Techniques brushes but I have too many brushes already! x
ReplyDeleteI use the Bobbi Brown Bronzer Brush for my loose powder and bronzer! This brush is very dense, so I have to remember to use a light hand! I might have to look into Real Techniques soon!
ReplyDeleteYou look so fresh and pretty! What a good reminder for me to stop being lazy and use bronzer (I've been skipping it and just using blush lately, what a slug I am!)
ReplyDeleteSeriously girl you look stunning!! That cheek combo REALLY suits you! Love it..
ReplyDeleteI'm struggling with my brushes at the moment.. I'm using the Illamasqua blush brush and as lovely and soft as it is, it's just too dense for powder bronzer.. I love it with my chanel soleil de tan.. But not for powder bronzer.. Will have to check out RT brushes!
Just discovered your awesome blog--you're gorgeous girl! And love your bronzer picks
ReplyDeleteYour post makes me wanna check out Tarte's Avenue Princess... I love using the MAC 163 for applying bronzer because of the angle it has....great for getting colour along contours of the face.
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to try the Laguna brozer, but I am having a hard time spending $34 on bronzer! I am sure I will eventually cave and buy it, it looks great on your skin! Loving your blog (:
ReplyDeleteLaguna is amazing, many beauty gurus love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently using MAC MSF, 2 shades darker than my skintone.
and I use a MAC 138 brush!
I absolutely adore your blog. The makeup is wonderful and I'll really love to try that out! Following u now via Goggle +. Follow me back if you like! ♥Say meow to me on: Miss Kwong: From Catwalk to Classroom
I actually never use bronzer, maybe because I'm a bit scared of looking like a carrot, but it's actually really nice on you! I guess the ppl I see wearing bronzer kinda overuse it, but you look really pretty and healthy with it :).
ReplyDeleteAgree with and share your belief!:) You're using really pretty warm shades, they suit you perfect!
ReplyDeletep.s. Great blog, it's my first time here...:)
Happy Sunday!

Yes, I swatched the Dior bronzers when I was in Sephora a few weeks ago....I thought they looked nice but not sure I want to purchase any of them. I'm still sad they discontinued my beloved matte bronzer!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jelena! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Teri :)
