Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters.

For the longest time, whenever I'd see someone tweet about these new lip butters Revlon was releasing, I imagined a tinted lip balm in a pot...like the Korres Lip Butters. Once I saw these in stores, however, they proved to be a much more exciting product.

The Revlon Lip Butters are a part of the Colorburst line, and I'd describe them as moisturizing and glossy lipsticks with varying degrees of pigmentation, depending on the shade.

I have four shades:

One of my favorite qualities of the lip butters is the adorable packaging - translucent, color-coordinated lids with a quilted design imprinted on them. The top of the lid is also clear so you can see the actual color of the lipstick inside too.

L to R:
Berry Smoothie
Strawberry Shortcake
Lollipop
Peach Parfait

The lipsticks are slanted at the top and the tube is much like the packaging for the MAC Sheen Supreme lipsticks.

L to R (note: order is different from above...blogging fail!):
Berry Smoothie
Strawberry Shortcake
Peach Parfait
Lollipop

Berry Smoothie

Berry Smoothie is a shimmery, mauvey berry shade. I wore it in this post, and a lot of you were surprised by how glossy it looked. While I can assure you I definitely did not have any gloss on, I am guilty of layering it on quite liberally to build up the color, which may have added to the glossiness :) In addition, Berry Smoothie just happens to also be the glossiest lip butter of the four I have.

Strawberry Shortcake

Strawberry Shortcake is your standard shimmer-free, bubblegum pink shade. It's not so pale that it borders on porn-star-lip-status, but admittedly, it's not the most flattering shade on me. Those who are fans of shades like MAC Viva Glam Gaga I, MAC Angel, or Dior Singuliere would most definitely enjoy Strawberry Shortcake as well.

Peach Parfait

Peach Parfait is a rosy-brown with golden shimmer. It's the most shimmery lip butter of the four I own, but it's not overly shimmery to the point where it'd look silly used during the day. On me, I find it's a very flattering everyday type of shade.

Lollipop

Lollipop is a hot pink with blue-toned shimmer. The shimmer isn't nearly as detectable as it is in Peach Parfait, but it's just enough to make your teeth look shockingly white. The shade is very similar to MAC Girl About Town, and I would've swatched the two side-by-side if my camera battery hadn't decided to die on me :-/ Lollipop is definitely my favorite shade of the bunch!

In terms of pigmentation, I'd say that Berry Smoothie, Strawberry Shortcake, and Peach Parfait are all on the slightly sheer side but can absolutely be built up by layering. Lollipop has full coverage. As a result, Lollipop also has the best staying power, while the others tend to need re-application after about the 1-2 hour mark. Keep in mind, I tend to reapply my lip products quite often anyway, so I'm not usually the best person to ask about wear-time :)

Lastly, I think it's absolutely worth noting that for me, the main selling point of these lip butters and what really sets them apart from the traditional lipsticks is that they are much more moisturizing and comfortable to wear. While some lipsticks tend to dry out my lips or settle into my lip lines after several hours, these feel like I have nothing more than a lip balm on. I also find that while they have more slip than traditional lipsticks, they're not as slippery as MAC Sheen Supremes where I feel like I have to constantly worry that my lipstick has transferred all over my face after eating.

I purchased one from Walgreens and three from Target for somewhere between $6.50 and $8. I believe they are also a part of Revlon's permanent line, so don't fret if you can't find certain shades you want right now :)

Today, I wore Lollipop!

Happy Thanksgiving!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all of you that celebrate it!! I hope you all are having a fun and relaxing day with loved ones.

Thank you for all of your sweet comments on my last posts - it really means a lot! Based on your feedback, I'll be reviewing the Revlon Lip Butters first, followed by Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation, and then I will eventually review the Jordana Eashyshine Lip Colors at some point in the near future :)

I enjoyed a pre-Thanksgiving dinner with my friends last night and I thought I'd show a quick FOTD of the products I wore! I was also testing out taking photos with flash since as the weather continues to become more drab and gloomy, it seems less and less likely that I'll be able to take photos using natural light by the window like I had been before :-/ If any of you have any tips on how to take good photos (FOTD, product photos, and swatches) indoors with flash, I'm all ears!

L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara

I was recently given the opportunity to try out L'Oreal's newest mascara, Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara. Since I loved their Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara, apart from the smudging I get under my eyes when I use it, I was curious to see how this one would compare.

The mascara claims to have thin nylon and rayon fibers that adhere to your lashes, giving them the "false lash effect" by making them look fuller, longer, curled, and sculpted. It's only barely noticeable in the above photo, but the brush is also at a slight angle. For me, that minute detail really didn't affect the mascara's capabilities for better or for worse, in my opinion.

The first thing I noticed about the mascara was that the packaging was huge. And gold. And slightly gaudy. Makeup packaging usually matters to me, but for mascaras, not so much. I would've preferred a less ginormous tube, but I quickly got over that tiny speed bump.

Secondly, the brush is quite large as well. It's not necessarily any thicker than you'd expect a mascara brush to be, but it is on the longer end of the length spectrum. In the photo above, L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes is the top brush, and the bottom brush is Prestige My Blackest Lashes for comparison purposes. The bigger brush took a bit of getting used to for me, especially when it came to applying mascara to my bottom lashes. I'd be lying if I said the thought of an accidental eyeball poking-related injury didn't cross my mind a few times ;)

Below is the mascara in action:
One coat on top lashes only.

Two coats on top lashes; one coat on bottom lashes.

I realize that with two coats, my lashes look kind of clumpy in this up-close photo. Keep in mind that mascaras, in general, tend to look that way on my lashes because I have somewhat sparse lashes. In real life and at a normal distance, I really didn't find this mascara to be clumpy at all with two coats.

Two coats on top lashes; one coat on bottom lashes.
Why did I all of a sudden show the opposite eye, you ask? Because the curl I got from my eyelash curler was better on this eye today. Simple as that ;)

L'Oreal has a Never Fake It Again campaign going on right now for this mascara. Do I think this mascara gives the "false lash effect"? Simply put - no.

It's a good mascara - it's not clumpy, it gives decent (but not great) volume, it holds a curl decently, it's moderately lengthening, and most importantly, it doesn't smudge at all on me but is still easy to remove.

The deal breaker for me and the reason why my lashes still look fairly natural (in my opinion) and not "false" as the mascara claims they would look is because for me, Voluminous False Fiber Lashes is simply not volumizing enough. Quite frankly, I get more voluminous lashes with both L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black and Prestige My Blackest Lashes.

If you're looking for a good mascara that perhaps gives you nice lashes for everyday but don't quite have the POW you'd want for a night out on the town, then this mascara might be worth looking into. It retails for $8.95 at most stores and while it may not be the most affordable drugstore mascara, it certainly doesn't break the bank either.

Disclaimer: This mascara was sent to me free of charge for review purposes only. I am not affiliated with the brand, nor am I getting paid for this review. The opinions expressed in this review are honest and based solely on my own experience with the product.

Have you tried Voluminous False Fiber Lashes? If so, what did you think of it?

Remember me? ;)

I could list all the reasons why I haven't blogged in nearly a month, but I won't because who really cares, right? All that matters is that I'm back now, although I can't say for sure that I'll be blogging several times a week or anything like that. All I can promise is that I will try to blog more regularly :) I missed you guys!

So I've accumulated quite a few new products over the past few weeks/months that when it actually came time to blog, I didn't even know where to start....so I opted for the fail-proof FOTD route! Not the most exciting types of posts, I know, but I promise I'll work on some reviews of some of my new-ish goodies soon :)

In other news, I've been OBSESSED with my Clarisonic Mia ever since I got it during Sephora Friends & Family Sale. Surprisingly, the "purging phase" I experienced was tame and short-lived and my skin has been in really great condition ever since (still with the occasional break-outs though, of course!). I fell in love with it so quickly that I even snatched up a lavender one for my mom during the VIB sale for Christmas :) I'll definitely be reviewing mine in a few weeks.

I've been kind of out of the Twitter and beauty blogging loop for the past few weeks, but I did notice that a few of the beloved Chanel Rouge Allure Laques were being discontinued and the frenzy that ensued online soon after news broke. While I had often admired Dragon Rouge Allure Laque on others, I really never had any intention whatsoever of purchasing it for myself (mainly due to the fact that I don't tend to sport in-your-face red lips often enough to warrant the hefty $32 price tag), but then 3 things happened:

1. I saw this post on Temptalia.com.
2. I went to Nordstrom.com immediately and purchased something I didn't need.
3. I tweeted the following:

I had zero intention of doing it.......but then all of a sudden I just did. I bought Chanel Dragon. EEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*slaps wrist*

Dragon seems to be sold out online at Nordstrom now, and even when I purchased it a few days ago, it was on backorder until the beginning of next month. Despite feeling a moderate amount of guilt for succumbing to temptation and spending a decent amount of money on something that will probably not get enough use from me to warrant the price tag, I'm still really excited for it to get here so I can wear it for the holidays!

So that's all from me for now, but I'll leave you with a little poll for a future post!
Which review would you be most interested in seeing?
1. Revlon Lip Butters
2. Jordana Easyshine Lip Colors
3. Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation
