Things I've Been Wearing and Loving.

Clockwise from bottom:
Chanel Illusion d'Ombre in Illusoire
MAC eyeshadow in Hocus Pocus
NARS eyeshadow duo in Dogon (used and swatched in this post)

I've only used Chanel Illusoire once since getting it so I can't comment on the staying power yet, but so far, I'm getting the feeling it's just an expensive version of the Buxom Stay-There Eye Shadows. The two have very similar moussey/spongey textures, share the same super shimmer factor, and the two shades that I have (Chanel Illusoire and Buxom Pug) are very similar, with the main difference being that Illusoire has purple undertones while Pug is more silvery. I still think Illusoire is gorgeous, but I'd hesistate to say it's really worth $36 (the Buxom shadows have 0.02oz less product than the Chanel ones, but they also cost only $17). And if you're wondering why half of my pot is missing, it's because I'm sharing it with a friend :)

I just talked about Dogon in yesterday's post, and I've been obsessed with using Hocus Pocus to darken up my outer v.

Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Sandy (top) and MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy

I also wore Buxom Sandy in yesterday's post, but I honestly feel like it's one of the best nude lipglosses out there. It has really nice pigmentation, although not quite opaque, and it's not a corpse-like nude shade at all. In fact, it has the perfect balance of peachy and pink undertones, in my opinion, so it's not too orange, brown, or pink...it's just perfect. Those who have lips that are sensitive to plumping lip products may want to steer clear, though, as this one has a tingling effect, although I don't personally find it painful or irritating at all.

I've been using Teddy non-stop since getting it a few weeks ago. I love the metallic sheen it has because I sometimes find that brown eyeliners can look quite flat and boring without a lil' somethin' somethin', you know what I mean? It also doesn't hurt that it complements blue-toned eye makeup perfectly, as I've recently fallen in love with using the NARS Dogon duo :)

Chanel Illusoire
MAC Hocus Pocus
MAC Teddy
Buxom Sandy

I've also been loving this seemingly boring neutral, brown LORAC palette I scored off of Hautelook a few weeks ago for $14!
Super tacky packaging, in my opinion :-/

LORAC Haute Couture Palette in Sand Tropez (Hautelook exclusive)

LORAC Sand Tropez Palette

The pale cream shade is almost exactly like MAC Brule, except with much better pigmentation. The two middle shades are both shimmery, and the peachy gold shade makes for an effortless yet surprisingly pretty lid shade. The darkest brown shade is matte and is great for darkening up the outer v or using it as liner with an angled liner brush. Contrary to my craptastic swatch of it, it doesn't actually apply patchy like that :)

I've been wearing the peachy gold shade on the lid, the lighter brown shade in the crease, the darkest brown shade in the outer v, and using the pale cream shade to blend everything out and as an eyebrow bone highlight. Despite the shades looking painfully boring in the palette, together they create a fantastic, cohesive palette that is perfect for simple, everyday eye makeup. So glad I got it!

A gift from the lovely Danielle :)
Revlon nail enamel in Carbonite (supposedly similar to Chanel le vernis in Graphite)

I guess I would describe Carbonite as a gunmetal shade but with a slightly golden-green tone to it. Very pretty indeed :)

Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil in Lemon (left) and Madre Labs Moisturizing Body Wash in Rosemary Mint

So I ran out of my bottle of Cod Liver Oil soon after I moved to my new apartment back at the end of July, and I thought, Hmm, I wonder if I could get away with not using it anymore and still having clear skin? I shouldn't have wondered. The answer was no, I could not get away with it...at least not for very long. It took my skin about a month to start acting up again and before I knew it, my skin was a mess. I quickly ordered more Cod Liver Oil off of Amazon and within a week of using it again, I could see my skin starting to clear up. Lesson learned!

The shower gel works just like any other shower gel - it has great lather, although I don't find it particularly moisturizing considering it's a moisturizing formula - but the reason I'm so obsessed with it is because of the scent. It smells like what it claims to smell like, rosemary mint, but with a strong emphasis on the mint, and maybe with a touch of menthol? Not everyone's cup-o-tea, I'm sure, but I LOVE using it because it' so refreshing and just seems to wake me up immediately...it's like using Vick's Vapor Rub in the shower. LOL!

Your description of the body wash makes me think of Dr. Bronner's mint bodywash. Have you tried it before? If you love the menthol-esque properties of the brand you're using now I think you'd LOVE Dr. Bronners ... especially on a cold winter day!

  5. I am so intrigued by the Chanel potted eyeshadow but the price is a bit ridiculous for eye color. I love Buxom and Nars!

  6. Chanel Illusion looks super duper pretty...but I agree, the price is really discouraging. :( Carbonite looks great! Metallic nails look so chic~

  7. I love Madre Labs body wash. The scent is very good, but yeah, but some people will hate it!

  8. Chanel Illusion d'Ombre in Illusoire is an absolute fave of mine too!

  10. I've never tried cold liver oil for my skin. It really makes that much of a difference? xxx

  11. Ah, I can't wait until my Chanel counter restocks Illusoire.. I've been going for almost 2 wks now and no luck!!! :(

Btw thanx for the Carbonite swatch, it really looks like a pretty (and most importantly affordable) version of Graphite!!! ;)

  12. First, that LORAC palette packaging is adorable! I would LOVE carrying that around. So feminine and chic...not to mention that the shades look so wearable! Also, Carbonite looks great on you....I am glad you enjoy it (thanks for the shout out). And thanks to you I ordered Teddy on my last MAC order and can't wait to try it out!
Hmmm, right now I am loving Chanel's Fauve eyeshadow and using the blackish shade from my CARGO metallico palette as a liner. :)

  13. I want to get that Chanel shadow pot, and that Revlon polish looks identical to graphite. I can't find it anywhere.

  14. The Lorac palette looks lovely!!

  15. It's great that you're showing us so similarities/ comparing non-expensive with expensive. I'm in love with make up but I barely wear it, I also like D.I.Y's ( do it yourselfs) too:)

  16. Ahhh Hocus Pocus, Teddy and Sandy look so lovely. I still need to get around to trying cod liver oil. I really should get on it since my skin has been especially awful lately. :(

  17. Ahh everything you posted is gorgeous :) I love these posts! I also got my hands on Dogon yesterday - love it so far, I can't wait to try it!

  18. Thanks for another great post! I'm using the Cod Liver oil too, but I think it's breaking me out for some reason....Hmm..the jury is still out on that one.

  19. Ooo, no, I haven't tried it before but it definitely sounds like something I'd enjoy! I'll have to be on the lookout for that one after I finish up this bottle :)

  20. I honestly can't believe the difference it's made for my skin! Not sure everyone would benefit the same way though :-/

    ReplyDelete
  21. For me it does! It's the main thing (among a few other minor topical acne products) that has helped to clear up my skin and keep it clear. I don't know if everyone would see the same results though :-/

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yay! Let me know how you like Teddy! I LOVE the color, although it doesn't last very long on the lashline or the waterline, which is kind of a bummer.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I wasn't able to find it anywhere either, which is why I was so happy when Danielle gave one to me! Good luck on your hunt :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Let me know what you think after you've had more time to play with it! I'm sure it'll look super pretty on you :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah, I'm not sure if it works for everyone, but it definitely works for me! It's worth a try, I think :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I like reading/watching DIYs too, but I'm terrible at doing them myself! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks, Tiffany!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Don't worry - when Illusoire finally gets restocked, it'll be well worth the wait :) The color is gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm glad you like it too! It's so pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's definitely a strong and unique scent but I just can't seem to get enough of it! I'm glad you like it too :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks, Amy! I'm really loving metallic nails at the moment too :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree, especially since the Buxom ones are so similar and cost less than half the price!

    ReplyDelete
  33. It's really pretty! I wasn't able to find it either, so I was super happy and grateful when Danielle sent me one :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thank you! I really like them too, especially the palette considering it was only $14 for 4 amazing eyeshadows!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks, River! Sometimes it's nice to just give some of the products you already own some love too, isn't it? :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Omg! So much! :D I love these greyish colours! ♥completely

  37. Do you think that the liquid COL works better than gel capsules? Because I've started taking the latter and I'm not seeing any difference yet, but I don't  know if I can stomach the bottled version. Maybe I'll just give it some time.

  38. I've been loving dogon too! I'm so glad I got it. It's so beautiful but unique and amazing on brown eyes. I heard it's similar to Nar's duo in rajasthan which I've regretted not getting for the past year.  Anyway, it looked gorgeous on you in your FOTD :]

  39. Thanks for your mini-review of the LORAC palette.  I also picked up the Sand Tropez palette but the tacky packaging kept me from using it.  I was considering whether or not to give it away; but you've convinced me that it's what's on the inside that counts! :)

  40. Thanks for your mini-review on the Lorac palette.  I also purchased the Sand Tropez palette, but held off on using it because of the tacky packaging.  I was considering giving it away, but you've convinced me that it's whats on the *inside* that counts! :) tee hee!

  41. Oh, no! Really? That's a bummer :(

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thank you so much, Daphnee!! I'm so sorry but I accidentally deleted the link you left :( If you could repost it here for me, I'd really appreciate it and thank you again for tagging me for those awards! :D

    ReplyDelete
  43. I honestly am not sure. I don't *think* it should really make that much a difference. How long have you been taking it and what is your skin like to begin with?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks so much, Josey! I'm glad you're liking Dogon too :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thank you, Sarah!

    ReplyDelete
  46. LOL! If you're looking for a solid (although not very exciting), everyday, neutral palette, I think you should definitely keep it :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I love all those eyeshadow colors - the Loral palette is gorgeous and I love the nailpolish too!!  I am loving your blog!! :)

  48. Oh I love that Lorac palette, and what a great price! I'm sorry to have missed out on that!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thank you, Sherry!

  50. I just got a sample of Epatant and I'm loving it too! And thank you so much, Dustyn :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. It was definitely a great deal but not a must-have, especially if you already have a few other neutral eyeshadows...don't feel bad on missing out on it :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I tried it out and I'm keeping it! It is a "solid", go-to combination of neutrals. I love mattes and minimal shimmer, and you don't often come across a palette like this. The other thing is -- I simply couldn't pass up getting my hands on 4 luscious, buttery LORAC eyeshadows for $14!

I'm interested in any EOTDs you have with this palette :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Carbonite looks like a pretty good dupe for Graphite! What happened to your illusoire!? You said you've only used it once but it looks like its half gone! x

    ReplyDelete
  54. I scooped half of it out into an empty pot and gave it to a friend :)
