Things I've Been Wearing and Loving.

Clockwise from bottom:
Chanel Illusion d'Ombre in Illusoire
MAC eyeshadow in Hocus Pocus
NARS eyeshadow duo in Dogon (used and swatched in this post)

I've only used Chanel Illusoire once since getting it so I can't comment on the staying power yet, but so far, I'm getting the feeling it's just an expensive version of the Buxom Stay-There Eye Shadows. The two have very similar moussey/spongey textures, share the same super shimmer factor, and the two shades that I have (Chanel Illusoire and Buxom Pug) are very similar, with the main difference being that Illusoire has purple undertones while Pug is more silvery. I still think Illusoire is gorgeous, but I'd hesistate to say it's really worth $36 (the Buxom shadows have 0.02oz less product than the Chanel ones, but they also cost only $17). And if you're wondering why half of my pot is missing, it's because I'm sharing it with a friend :)

I just talked about Dogon in yesterday's post, and I've been obsessed with using Hocus Pocus to darken up my outer v.

Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Sandy (top) and MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy

I also wore Buxom Sandy in yesterday's post, but I honestly feel like it's one of the best nude lipglosses out there. It has really nice pigmentation, although not quite opaque, and it's not a corpse-like nude shade at all. In fact, it has the perfect balance of peachy and pink undertones, in my opinion, so it's not too orange, brown, or pink...it's just perfect. Those who have lips that are sensitive to plumping lip products may want to steer clear, though, as this one has a tingling effect, although I don't personally find it painful or irritating at all.

I've been using Teddy non-stop since getting it a few weeks ago. I love the metallic sheen it has because I sometimes find that brown eyeliners can look quite flat and boring without a lil' somethin' somethin', you know what I mean? It also doesn't hurt that it complements blue-toned eye makeup perfectly, as I've recently fallen in love with using the NARS Dogon duo :)

From left to right:

Chanel Illusoire
MAC Hocus Pocus
MAC Teddy
Buxom Sandy

I've also been loving this seemingly boring neutral, brown LORAC palette I scored off of Hautelook a few weeks ago for $14!
Super tacky packaging, in my opinion :-/

LORAC Haute Couture Palette in Sand Tropez (Hautelook exclusive)

LORAC Sand Tropez Palette

The pale cream shade is almost exactly like MAC Brule, except with much better pigmentation. The two middle shades are both shimmery, and the peachy gold shade makes for an effortless yet surprisingly pretty lid shade. The darkest brown shade is matte and is great for darkening up the outer v or using it as liner with an angled liner brush. Contrary to my craptastic swatch of it, it doesn't actually apply patchy like that :)

I've been wearing the peachy gold shade on the lid, the lighter brown shade in the crease, the darkest brown shade in the outer v, and using the pale cream shade to blend everything out and as an eyebrow bone highlight. Despite the shades looking painfully boring in the palette, together they create a fantastic, cohesive palette that is perfect for simple, everyday eye makeup. So glad I got it!

A gift from the lovely Danielle :)
Revlon nail enamel in Carbonite (supposedly similar to Chanel le vernis in Graphite)

I guess I would describe Carbonite as a gunmetal shade but with a slightly golden-green tone to it. Very pretty indeed :)

Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil in Lemon (left) and Madre Labs Moisturizing Body Wash in Rosemary Mint

So I ran out of my bottle of Cod Liver Oil soon after I moved to my new apartment back at the end of July, and I thought, Hmm, I wonder if I could get away with not using it anymore and still having clear skin? I shouldn't have wondered. The answer was no, I could not get away with it...at least not for very long. It took my skin about a month to start acting up again and before I knew it, my skin was a mess. I quickly ordered more Cod Liver Oil off of Amazon and within a week of using it again, I could see my skin starting to clear up. Lesson learned!

The shower gel works just like any other shower gel - it has great lather, although I don't find it particularly moisturizing considering it's a moisturizing formula - but the reason I'm so obsessed with it is because of the scent. It smells like what it claims to smell like, rosemary mint, but with a strong emphasis on the mint, and maybe with a touch of menthol? Not everyone's cup-o-tea, I'm sure, but I LOVE using it because it' so refreshing and just seems to wake me up immediately...it's like using Vick's Vapor Rub in the shower. LOL!

Disclaimer: The shower gel was sent to me free of charge for review purposes only. I am not affiliated with the company, nor am I getting paid for this review. The opinions expressed in this review are honest and based solely on my own experience with the product.

What have you guys been loving lately?

FOTD with NARS Dogon :)

As not-so-subtly suggested by the title...

A happy closed-eye shot...

...and an indifferent closed-eye shot :)

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in #52 (thanks, J., for the super generous sample!)
Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Concealer Palette
Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer in Light (under-eyes)
Maybelline Dream Matte Powder in Sand
Benefit Hoola
NARS blush in Douceur
Dior Amber Diamond

NARS eyeshadow duo in Dogon
UD e/s in Naked
UD e/s in Buck
MAC e/s in Brule
UD e/s in Virgin
MAC eye kohl in Teddy (I. Love. This. So. Much.)
L'Oreal Voluminous mascara
Covergirl Lash Blast mascara

Buxom l/g in Sandy (The perfect nude lipgloss!)

MAC Club eyeshadow (far left, for comparison purposes) and NARS Dogon eyeshadow duo

Club and the silvery shade in the Dogon duo are similar in that they have the same green duochrome sheen, but they have completely different base colors: Club has a red-brown base and the silver in Dogon has a silvery-taupe base. They're definitely not dupes at all though...I like to think of them more as very distant cousins :)

The other shade in the Dogon duo looks like a blackened teal in the pan but when swatched and worn, it's more like a really dark, charcoal-black and any trace of teal is not really detectable. And since I haven't blogged in a while, I've become so awesome that I actually forgot to take a picture of the actual duo itself! So helpful, right?! My bad ;)

Close-up of Dogon in action, complete with mascara smudged on the eyelid :)

I've been so busy lately with school that I pretty much only ever have time to wear makeup on the weekends now, so I kind of went to town with the abundance of products today :)

I also made little pit-stops at Ulta and Target today where I picked up a tube of Prestige My Blackest Lashes Mascara, which was on sale for less than $3.90 (total steal!), and Revlon Facets of Fuchsia nail polish, a black with hot pink glitter and hexagonal confetti...just keepin' it classy! My hope for the mascara is that it'll be as good as L'Oreal Voluminous minus the smudging problem. Have any of you tried it and if so, what did you think of it? I'd love to hear your thoughts :)

I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend!

Blogger Interrogation 2.0: Kelly's Makeup Bag

The blogger: Kelly

What are your 3 favorite blogs of the moment?
Oy. This is so hard! I can only pick three? Well if you say so . . . I’ve been loving The Bristol Beauty Blog – this girl makes me want to move to the UK right now solely for their beauty products., In Her Makeup Bag is a good one for college girls like myself who want to find good options at the drugstore. Last but not least, Cute and Mundane because she has an amazing NARS collection (totally jealous!) and she has great photos! These girls are all so sweet and have great blogs!

What colors do you tend to gravitate towards, in terms of makeup?
Neutrals! I’m a huge fan of any and every brown shadow – they make my blue eyes pop! For lips, I really like pinks and nudes. The Viva Glam Gaga colors are right up my alley.

Name one (or a few) products you like to use, despite knowing it’s probably not the most flattering on you.
Bright blush (Dollymix and Frankly Scarlet: I’m looking at you!). I have red cheeks, so I have to be really careful with what blush colors I wear. Pinks and reds tend to make me look sunburned which is not a look I usually strive for!

Name one limited edition item you wish would become permanent.
I’m going to be groundbreaking here and say Stereo Rose MSF. Who would want that back? :D

Name one makeup item that would make you burst into tears immediately if it was dropped on the floor and shattered into a million pieces.
My MAC blush in Bite of an Apple! I just got this blush on the Specktra forums and it’s one of the few blushes I’ve found that suits my skin-tone. After I finished crying my eyes out I would resort to ebay to find a replacement!

What is your favorite YouTube channel (beauty-related or not)?
I love Amarixe! I don’t know why, but I feel like she could be my big sister. She’s hilarious!

Name one of your favorite beauty products under $10 (ideally drugstore).
I’m obsessed with my L’Oreal HIP Energized Eye Shadow Duo. Seriously, this duo has some of the most pigmented drugstore eye shadows I’ve ever tried!

Name one of your favorite beauty products over $10 (ideally non-drugstore).
I don’t know what I would do with out MAC’s Refined Golden Bronzer. It’s the perfect shade for my skintone. It’s not too orange, and it’s not too muddy. Like Baby Bear’s porridge, it’s juuuusssstt right!

Please link us to your favorite post.
My Amy Winehouse look is hands down my favorite post. I had never done anything near that dramatic with makeup before – I was so nervous! Y’all should have seen me actually applying the makeup . . . I was a hot mess!

Thank you to Kelly for letting us interrogate her!

Blogger Interrogation will being going on a bit of a hiatus until further notice! :)

No-Makeup Makeup.

Because some days, you just can't be bothered ;)

I used...
Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer in Light to cover up any imperfections.
Dior Sculpt Lifting Smoothing Concealer in 002 Beige to cover up my dark, under-eye circles.
Dior Matte Bronzer in 002 Honey Matte to pretend like I'm not ghostly pale.
MAC Blush in Trace Gold as a subtle blush.
NARS Lipstick in Dolce Vita because it's like a rosier version of MLBB.
That's it!

My hair is still bouncy thanks to some residual curls from last night, and I tend to feel like when you have good hair, you don't need as much makeup :)

What's your no-makeup makeup look?

Stress-Induced Purchases.

I don't know if I'm the only one that does this, but when I'm stressed and I'm out shopping, I tend to buy more stuff than I normally would because I'm able to rationalize it by saying things like, "It's okay, I worked hard for this!" or "If this purchase will help lower my stress, then it's worth it!", etc. And since school has basically taken over my life recently, I hauled...and you know what? I do feel better :D

Clockwise from top left:
MAC Blush in Trace Gold
Urban Decay Primer Potion in Greed
MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Korean Candy
MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy
NARS Lipstick in Dolce Vita

L to R:
UDPP in Greed
MAC Korean Candy
NARS Dolce Vita

Greed works just as well as the original UDPP, but I got it because I figured the pale, yellow gold would be an easy and pretty wash of color on the lids on days when you can't be bothered to apply much else. I like to think of it as a cream/liquid eyeshadow that just happens to also have amazing staying power :)

Korean Candy

Korean Candy is a bright, red-tangerine shade that I wanted because I thought it'd be the perfect pop of color to perk up my mood in the Fall and Winter when the weather is drab and depressing. I love the color but as with all Sheen Supremes, the lasting power isn't very good so I worry a bit about it transferring onto my teeth and everywhere else when I'm wearing it...kind of a pain, but hopefully the gorgeous color will make it worthwhile.

Dolce Vita

Dolce Vita is a lipstick that as soon as I wore it, I knew it was going to be HG status. I think it's hard to have just one HG lipstick because I like different shades, textures, and finishes depending on what kind of look I'm going for, but Dolce Vita's sheer, rosey color and natural finish just make it so versatile and easy to wear. The best part is that it feels like a lip balm! LOVE. So glad I listened to my blogging ladies on this one :)

L to R:
Milani Liquif'Eye Pencil in Brown
MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy
Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Whiskey

The above photo shows off my brown eyeliner collection...in other words, it's very lacking. Before I got Teddy, I only had matte brown eyeliners and I was on the market for a brown that packed a little more punch. Teddy is a slightly metallic, red-brown that does just that.

L to R:
Dior Amber Diamond
MAC Trace Gold

Last, but not least, is Trace Gold, which I kind of purchased on a whim because I wanted something different from the coral, pink, and berry blushes I normally go for. I don't really hear that much about Trace Gold (apart from Sandra and it looks amazing on her!), but so far, I'm definitely happy with my purchase. It's not nearly as shimmery as I thought it was going to be, and I don't find that it accentuates my pores at all like overly shimmery face products tend to do. On my NC25 complexion, it's a soft, peachy gold blush, but on darker skintones, I'd imagine it would function more as a highlight...think of a deeper Dior Amber Diamond type of shade but with less sheen :)

Do you tend to haul more or less when you're stressed out? Please tell me I'm not the only one! Happy Saturday, everyone :)

What a Rebel.

I Back-2-MAC'd for Rebel lipstick today :)

MAC describes Rebel as a "vivid pinkish-purple", and while I'd have to agree, I also find the color much pinker (think magenta) when worn and much more purple when in the bullet. It has a satin finish, but I find it glossier and more moisturizing than other MAC satins I've tried.

I think Rebel will be a gorgeous "night on the town" kind of shade, but also a fabulous addition to my Fall lipstick rotation :) It was released recently with the MAC Me Over collection but is also a part of MAC's permanent line.

Blogger Interrogation 2.0: Pretty In The Desert

The blogger: Aseya

Who/What blog(s)/ YouTube channel(s) inspired you to start blogging?
My friend actually suggested I start my own blog. I am an ex-beauty therapist and no matter how hard I try, the industry will always have my heart. I started reading blogs to keep up with things and decided to go for it! One of the very first blogs I read was Nadine Jolie and it seemed so glamorous. I never really thought I’d actually get away with it!

What are your 3 favorite blogs of the moment?
Honestly WTF - I love reading that blog for fashion inspiration, their pictures are amazing! Plus, I’m really into making my own jewelry and they have the COOLEST DIYs. Lisa Eldridge -She’s just a legend and her videos are so easy to watch. No More Dirty Looks - They focus on “safe and sustainable beauty”, which I am really trying to get into at the moment.

What colors do you tend to gravitate towards, in terms of makeup?
It kind of changes from season to season, but in general, I’d have to say: nudes for my lips, peaches for my cheeks and taupes and browns for my eyes.

Name one (or a few) products you like to use, despite knowing it’s probably not the most flattering on you.
Bright, neon nail polish. Especially Gamma by Illamsaqua. I just love it, but I look at pictures and think ‘woah!’

Name one limited edition item you wish would become permanent.
MAC’s Wonder Woman MSF in Pink Power. I love this, I pretty much wear it whenever I wear makeup!

Name one makeup item that would make you burst into tears immediately if it was dropped on the floor and shattered into a million pieces.
My NARS Orgasm/Laguna duo. It was my first ‘luxury’ makeup product and it opened doors for me! I was never very adventurous with color on m face because I thought it wouldn’t show up on darker skin. But, Orgasm looked gorgeous on me and it just opened up so many possibilities!

What is your favorite YouTube channel (beauty-related or not)?
Lisa Elridge’s channel is my favorite. She’s so well spoken and grown up! I want to be here when I grow up J

Name one of your favorite beauty products under $10 (ideally drugstore).
Nivea Mattifying Day Care Cream. It’s lovely. It makes my skin feel so soft and it doesn’t make me break out or give me a shiny face. I even wear it at night.

Name one of your favorite beauty products over $10 (ideally non-drugstore).
NARS Multiple in South Beach. This has been one of my favorites forever. It makes my skin look so pretty and it is so easy to apply. I like to throw it in my bag when I know I’ll be out for a while. It’s such a quick pick me up for my face.

Please link us to your favorite post.
One of my favorite posts is my Sleek Makeup Pout Paints preview. I have been playing around with my camera settings and lighting at home, and I’m so pleased with how these pictures turned out. Photography is definitely something that I need to work on! Also, this post about my cat, Bowie, always makes me smile. I know, I’m a crazy cat lady!

Thank you to Aseya for letting us interrogate her!

I'm not taking any new volunteers for Blogger Interrogation at the moment, but I'll definitely let you all know when I am :)

The main reason I've been m.i.a. is school...the supporting reason is that it was my birthday last weekend! Woohoo!

Adorable owl mug courtesy of a friend

Appropriate birthday card courtesy of another friend

I got the Slatkin & Co. Coconut Leaves candle when I bought all of those C.O. Bigelow lip balms I talked about in my last post and I have to say, it's even more amazing than I had anticipated. It has a fresh, coconut scent that's not sickly or overly sweet like some other coconut scents. Love!

I got that colorful, glass beaded bracelet at a local arts and crafts market. The beads are hand-made!

The silver and gold chain bracelet is The Ombre Metals Bracelet from HRH Collection. It's PERFECT...exactly what I wanted :)

The white hand bowl is not a new new purchase, but it was inspired by a post I saw from Lilladylife a few months ago :) It's from Urban Outfitters.

My makeup routine has become increasingly pathetic and boring, but I figured I'd include it anyway for those of you who were interested.

My "essentials" lately have been:
MUFE F&B foundation in #20
Dior Matte Bronzer in 002 Honey Matte (surprise, surprise)
Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso (surprise, surprise, surprise)
Skin Food Vita Tok Lipstick in PK03 (moisturizing and pretty pink color...see original post here)
C.O. Bigelow My Favorite Night Balm (better than both Aquaphor and Elizabeth Arden 8-Hr Cream as an overnight lip treatment, in my opinion!)
MAC Pearlglide Intense Eyeliner in Black Line (ab.so.lute.ly. gorgeous. I've been using it for winged liner and on the top lash line only.)

Skin Food Vita Tok lipstick in PK03 (left) and MAC Black Line

And last but not least....
Can you tell I really like this stuff?! ;)

Exciting news: I think I may be purchasing a few new makeup products this weekend for the first time in a while! Stops at MAC and Sephora are a must :D Any new product suggestions?
