A Duping Sunday.

I went through my makeup bag last night (by the way, does anyone else do this just for fun, too?) and was surprised that I had never noticed before how similar a few of my products look.

Behold the potential dupes:
Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso (left) and MAC MSF in Stereo Rose

MAC Stereo Rose (left) and Milani Luminoso
(Note: Swatches are in opposite order from product photo.)

In their pans, the two look very, very similar, but Stereo Rose appears to be a bit darker. Swatched, Stereo Rose isn't actually any darker, but it is pinker, while Luminoso is much peachier. Luminoso isn't exactly shimmery, but it has a beautiful sheen, and the most apparent difference between the two blushes is that Stereo Rose's sheen is almost frosty and is like 10x the sheen of Luminoso.

Dior Matte Bronzer in 002 Honey Matte (left) and Bourjois Delice de Soleil in #12

Bourjois #12 (left) and Dior Honey Matte
(Note: Swatches are in opposite order from product photo.)

In their pans, the two bronzers look nearly identical, except for the Bourjois bronzer looks just a smidgen darker, more orange, and has tiny and sparse gold shimmers throughout. The shimmers are exactly like the "glints of sunshine" in their Delice de Poudre bronzer (aka the original chocolate bronzer) in that they don't really translate to the skin once applied, and it's really more of a matte bronzer.

Swatched, Dior Honey Matte seems to be browner and a touch peachier, while the Bourjois one is noticeably more orange-undertoned. I also think it's worth noting that the Bourjois bronzer is the softest bronzer I've ever come across...almost to a fault. I find that it borderlines almost being powdery.

Left to right:

Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso
MAC MSF in Stereo Rose

In conclusion, I'd say the two bronzers are much closer to being dupes than the blushes are. If I had to choose, I much prefer the color and texture of the Dior bronzer over the Bourjois one, and I prefer the color and non-frostiness of the Milani blush over the MAC MSF.

And I don't think I've talked too much about Milani Luminoso recently, but it's amazing! (Not to be confused with Milani Luminous from their regular, non-baked blush range, by the way.) It's so gorgeous and just has this way of brightening up your complexion and illuminating your cheeks. I also think it's a shade that would work on most skin tones because it's neither too pale nor too dark, and the blush itself is very pigmented. If you're able to, GET. IT. ASAP. If you want to see how it looks on, I've worn it in a few of my recent FOTDs, so just click on the label in the left column :)

And in other Harry Potter follow-up news, I saw it. I loved it. I'm sad it's over.

Yeah, the Milani blush definitely doesn't have the same sheen but it's still sooo pretty on the cheeks...I swear the swatch doesn't do it justice! And I personally really like Stereo Rose but I've heard some people complain about how it's too metallic, so I think that those people might prefer a less sheen-y blush like Luminoso :)

I know :( Milani is a great drugstore brand...it makes up for the fact that we can't get Sleek over here, lol! :)

They're definitely different enough to warrant having both, I think ;)

  17. first of all can i just say that you are too cute for comfort!!! I'm fairly new to your blog but i'm already addicted!!! I love how descriptive you are about each product and how un-bias your reviews are. I also love your dupe editions!
like most girls i'm crazy about make up but by all means no where close to being a makeup guru like urself.
I admit i was absolute snot when it came to purchasing make up or facial products and never once considered purchasing any from a drug store until i came across ur blog. i just wanted to say thank you for widening my horizon!

  18. if i were to judge only by the swatches  i would pick bourjois and milani!it's really weird how packaging and brand name have the power to make me ignore the actual product!Thank God milani is not available in greece and all the best sellers from bourjois are always out of stock or unavailable!at least i have a good excuse! :)

  19. I'm really glad you did this - I personally don't have enough makeup to have dupes of things, but it's always good to know another brand of makeup that has the color/finish I want - especially is one is cheaper than the other!

  20. omg.. After reading your previous post you mentioned Milani luminoso was a great colour, I did a swap and asked for the same blush and I am very much in love with it too!!! :D thanks again tiff!

I had Luminoso in my hand just yesterday, but I put it back! I don't know why... I'll have to go back and get it. Great comparisons!

  22. The Milani blush looks so so pretty I actually love it over stereo rose. To be honest in your pictures stereo rose looks like a cheap blush next to the Milani. To bad Milani is hard to get over in the UK :( xx

  23. i've heard of people comparing Stereo Rose to Milani's Rose D'oro, but I've never seen this Luminoso! I've been looking for a nice sheeny peach, i think Luminoso is something I should try out! Thanks for the comparisons :)

  24. great post - i love seeing dupes. The Milani blush looks gorgeous. Think I love the look of it a bit more than stereo rose, although they are so similar. Thanks for sharing :) x

You should definitely give Luminoso a try - it's gorgeous! And I don't have Rose D'Oro, but based on swatches I've seen, it looks similar to Stereo Rose in the pan but it's significantly darker than Stereo Rose when swatched. I think Luminoso is much closer :)

Yes, that's the best when you come across something beautiful that you either forgot you had or haven't used it a while :) It's like acquiring new makeup! lol

  35. I love dupe posts, it means more pretty purchases that I can vicariously live through! I actually like the look of Luminoso and the Bourjois bronzer more than their high end counterparts :X
