Blush & Highlight-in-One.

I know I'm not just speaking for myself when I say that my makeup preferences go through phases. For example, I'll be obsessed with using brown eyeliner for a few weeks and all of a sudden when my obsession finally subsides, I won't reach for brown eyeliner at all.

For some reason, I haven't been using any highlighters or illuminators lately, but it's not because I don't still love them - I mean, I practically sleep next to my Dior Amber Diamond just to make sure it's safe at all times! I think the reason I haven't reached for highlighter lately is because 1) I'm lazy (story of my life), and 2 ) I've been opting for blushes that seem to be able to do double-duty as blush and highlight.

I apply these blushes the way I would any normal blush, by the way. I don't actually apply them as blush (apples of my cheeks) and then again as a highlight (on the tops of cheekbones). When I say that they serve as a blush and highlight in one, I simply mean that they have this way of just brightening up your complexion and giving your cheeks an illuminated glow, reminiscent of the glow achieved by using a blush and a separate highlighting product.

I think what sets these 'blush and highlight in one' type of blushes apart from other blushes is that they're best when they're pinks, peaches, or corals (in other words, not plums or browns because those colors usually aren't very illuminating), and when they have some sort of sheen (not matte). I prefer when the sheen isn't incredibly frosty (hello accentuated pores!) but rather, very tiny and smooth shimmer. Like these...

Do you have any blush & highlight-in-one products?

  1. Yay new post!!! i know in the morning us lazy girls are looking for some short cuts!!! the blush/highlighter in 1 i have been reaching for is the body shop mineralized blush in coral! nice summer color and enough sheen to need no highlights, unless i just want to give myself some more intensity

I have Prestige Peach Blusher that i like to use over bronzed cheeks, you defiantly dont need a highlighter with it. I find with coralista i dont need a highlighter as the sheen does that job for me.

  5. Love this post! Stereo Rose and Bella Bamba are my favorite 2 in 1 products! I also really love the new Laura Geller one I got in my Birchbox this month, it's like a 3 in 1 product seriously! :)

  6. Those are some really pretty blushes/swatches.  I'm not sure if this is considered one, but I use my Light Flush MSF as both a blush and highlight.

Where do they sell Prestige products? I don't think I've ever seen them before. And I agree with Coralista! I don't have it but I've swatched it many times and can totally see how the sheen would be very illuminating :)

Sometimes I like shimmery blushes and other times, I opt for more matte ones - I like to have a little bit of everything in my collection :D

I have found Prestige products at my local Bed, Bath & Beyond. They have a surprisingly large selection of cosmetics at some of the bigger stores!

  18. I love these! Especially Sugarbomb. My most reached for highlighter/blush has got to be my Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips Blush. It's inexpensive and gorgeous! Have you ever tried the Shimmer Strips?

  20. Great post! I find NARS Orgasm to be like that for me, and also like JC said, Light Flush MSF - sometimes it's a bit too pale so I add a bit of colour so that's cheating I suppose hahaha.

  21. I think they sell it america but not sure, never seen it mentioned anywhere but they defiantly have a website, strange... ALways find a need a good primer with these of blushers to as they can make my pores look huge even when there not, not a good look in the summer :)

  22. I live off of Benefit's Sugarbomb - its incredible! I also like Bella Bamba, but I'm finding it a bit too bright for me, and I was disappointed when I hit the bottom to find you get less for the same price than in other Benefit blush boxes!

  23. I love blush/highlights in one--as long as they aren't like full on shimmer/glitter. Bella Bamba is on of my favs for a glowy look. These are perfect when you don't want to mess around with two products. Also good for traveling. :) Love the swatches!

  24. I love any product that can do double duty. But I especially love highlighters/blushes. I have Benefit Bellabamba and a few MAC MSF's, they are so much fun.

  25. love the blushes! Steroo Rose looks really gorgeous! I like Maybelline's Dream Touch Blush as highlighters/blushers as they give a really nice brightening sheen to the skin

  30. I now think I need Benefit Bella Bamba in my life. Oh dear haha! I've been the same lately, reaching for blushes that have the same effect. In particular I've been loving the 17 Blush & Glow in Strawberries & Cream which can be bought from Boots in the UK xxx

Yeah, it kinda sucks that they decreased the amount but I rarely ever hit pan on my blushes because I have a problem and have way too much makeup for one person :-/ Have you tried Bella Bamba with a stippling brush to apply it more sheerly and see if it looks less bright?

  35. WillWorkForMakeupJune 9, 2011 at 5:58 PM

Thanks! Yeah, too much shimmer/glitter is a no-no.

  36. WillWorkForMakeupJune 9, 2011 at 5:58 PM

Yeah, MSFs are some of the best blush and highlighter in one kind of products!

Aww, it's ok hun! It doesn't have to be these exact ones. Have you tried the Accessorize one? It's a lot more affordable I think?

  42. I have chubby cheeks so I like to keep my blush and highlighter separate *hehe* But I love the one in "Starlet"! Very pretty.

  43. i use sugarbomb too
love all here so pretty :)

  44. For me those would be MSF "Readhead" and MSF "Refined". I love those two shades for a combination of blush and highlight!

MSF's for me definitely work as a double purpose, blush and highlight, although some can be too much. I like blushes that aren't totally matte, but not a disco ball either. Honestly, I prefer blushes too that can double as a bronzer if that makes any sense. For example, using MAC's Golden doubles up as a bronzer and blush for me.

  48. ......this just made me realise that all of my blushes are shimmery highlight-and-blush-in-one type products XD with the exception of MAC Her Blooming Cheek, which is so bright that it would be insane if it had shimmer too.

  49. WillWorkForMakeupJune 11, 2011 at 1:01 PM

MSFs are some of the best blush and highlight-in-one powder, in my opinion :)

  50. WillWorkForMakeupJune 11, 2011 at 1:02 PM

I like those too! Do you have Dior Aurora? That's my favorite blush/bronzer at the moment!

  51. WillWorkForMakeupJune 11, 2011 at 1:03 PM

OMG, yes, Her Blooming Cheek would be crazy if it was also shimmery! Which one is your favorite shimmer highlight-and-blush-in-one?

  52. I also recently got the new Napoleon Perdis blush patrol, its like a blush, bronzer and highlighter all in one, i think it would suit any skin tone to :D

  53. It's not like MSF crazy shiny, but I'm really liking NARS Deep Throat at the moment. And I always like MAC Hang Loose, especially since that literally *is* a highlighter and blush XD
