Essie Mint Candy Apple.

As obsessed as I've been with mint everything lately, you'd be surprised to know that I didn't actually own a mint nail polish. I had used my sister's Revlon Minted in the past, but the horrifically thin and streaky formula left much to be desired. After far more contemplation than is normal for choosing a nail polish shade, I decided against China Glaze Refresh-mint and went with Essie Mint Candy Apple.

After studying swatches online, I decided on Mint Candy Apple because I thought the blue-ish undertones really made it unique and set it apart from all the other generic mint nail polishes. Although Essie polishes can sometimes be a bit of a hit or miss as far as formulation goes, Mint Candy Apple is one of the good ones, needing only 2 coats to look perfectly smooth and opaque.

Essie has been my go-to nail polish brand as of late, as my nail polish obsessions have consistently moved from one Essie polish to the next - first with Chinchilly, then Lilacism, and now Mint Candy Apple. For those who have been told to steer clear of the brand due to the possibly of streaky and thin formulas, I'd suggest you look up reviews and swatches of specific shades you're interested in before purchasing them. I've done this nearly every time and I haven't purchased a dud yet :)

Who else is obsessed with mint? What's your favorite mint nail polish?

  1. that is such a gorgeous, summery shade. I know what you mean about Revlon's Minted. This is the kind of colour I hoped to achieve, but it was far too thin and blah! this though is perfect x

  2. this looks gorgeous on your skintone! i'll have to pull this shade back out and put it on for the spring! have you tried essie's Turquoise and Caicos? it's not really a mint, more of a turquoise but it's still really gorgeous!

  6. This is gorgeous...might have to add it to my wishlist. I also like China Glaze's Re-fresh Mint but it's more green than this one.

  7. I love Essie. The pretty colours definitely make up for the hit and miss formulas.

  8. I'm totally obsesed with mint at the moment! Don't know why, but it makes me happy to look at my fingers with pint polish on. My favourite (and the one I'm wearing now) is Refresh-mint by China Glaze. It's a bit lighter than this Essie one, but oh so gorgeous. You'll love it!

  10. That shade is gorrrgeous. I agree, mint has really been hitting me right now too! Essie is the brand that I keep coming back to. The quality of their polish exceeds most other brands. My aunt also owns a nail salon. She sends us whatever polish we request! :) I have yet to own any mint nail polishes...

  11. I'm absolutely obsessed with mint! I own the Revlon Minted polish but I, too, hate the formula even though the colour is perfect :( I also own a turquoise ish F21 nail polish, the formula is really nice, and the price is even better at $3.80! But the colour is a bit too dark for me... I might tryout the Essie one you mentioned!!

  12. I am!!! :) I already owned Mint Candy Apple and purchased China Glaze's Refresh-mint last weekend and I love it more than Mint Candy Apple. I mean they are both very pretty colors, but Refresh-mint just seems to apply easier in my case and looks better on my nails. Mint Candy Apple looks very good on you though!

  13. I love mint too, I have mint candy apple and like 4-5 that look just like it. I agree with you Revlon is streaky and watery, and essie used to be that way for me too, but over the years their polishes have become a lot better.

  15. I do love minty nail polishes as well! I find that I don't wear them all that much, but a new one for me is China Glaze Refresh-mint. I really like the color, seems similar to the Essie version, though I am sure there are some slight differences. Looks good on you!

@Caitlin: Yes, I love Turquoise and Caicos too!

@Amyboo: Girl, take advantage of that and ask her to send you Mint Candy Apple! It's gorgeous!

@Danielle: Yup, from what I hear, Refresh-mint is lighter and greener, whereas Mint Candy Apple is a tad more blue :)
