Update..

This is how my nails look nine days after painting them with Essie Chinchilly and using the Sally Hansen Mega Shine Top Coat. The Mega Shine Top Coat is not quite as thick as Seche Vite, but it's still thicker and more gel-like than your average top coat. If I look very closely, I can see really, really faint streak marks from the top coat, unlike Seche Vite that seems to smooth over as it dries down.

Even after nine days, it still has a lot of shine to it and my nail polish has not chipped at all, nor has it started to wear away at the tip. I have no doubt my nail polish could last another few days, but I can't stand the re-growth that's occurred from the cuticle so I figured I'd blog about it before re-painting them tonight since so many of you were curious how well the Mega Shine Top Coat would work. It definitely gets my seal of approval, in case that means anything to anyone!

I blogged about these lovely ladies here, and after having some time to play around with them and wear them for a few days, I can report back and say that I'm not as impressed as I had initially anticipated I'd be. I wore Flush one day and Rosy the next, and I applied both with my Sephora I.T. Face Contour Brush that I always use with cream blush and bronzers.

I found that since the blushes have more of a natural matte finish, they're not as emollient as other cream blushes and seemed to dry down on my skin and refuse to budge while I was still trying to blend it out with my brush. As a result, they didn't blend in as seamlessly as I had hoped and had a tendency to leave harsh edges that were difficult to blend in well. The lasting power is average - good but definitely does not last all day. My next plan of attack is to see if they'll be easier to blend using my fingers...I'll be sure to let you know if they do.

After expressing my distaste for both the Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm and the YSL Rouge Volupte Lipsticks a few months ago, Vivianna suggested I try wearing my Rouge Volupte over the Burt's Bees lip balm for better wear time. I can happily say that I tried it...and she's right! The qualities that I hated about the lip balm, the thick and waxy texture, are what helps the slippery and overly-emollient Rouge Volupte to adhere to your lips and not slide off in a matter of minutes. And just to be clear, while I'm enjoying using the two together, my thoughts on them separately haven't really changed at all :(

In addition, I discovered my latest favorite lip combo:
Burt's Bees Beeswax lip balm as a base
and YSL Rouge Volupte #13 Peach Passion
topped off with MAC Lipglass in Perennial High Style!

Perfect peachy-coral lips :)

  1. Have you tried using a Beauty Blender sponge before? I've had problems like that with creme blushes in the past and I've used this sponge to buff out the edges. Works like a charm!

  2. Wow, that nail polish lasted so well! I think I'm going to have to buy that top coat.

Any recommendations for a blush that is kind of coral/peach that would be good on pale skin? The one I'm using at the moment is a little too pink/dark. I'm new-ish to your blog, so not sure if you have posted about one before. :)

  4. I am definitely going to try the burts bees trick for the rouge volupte I have.
I wanted to ask your thoughts on the Bella Sugar Cosmetic eyeshadows. Do you think they are worth the price? Pros? Cons? I read your old post but wondering how you are feeling about them now.
Also please check out my makeup competition. Hoping you will submit a look.

  5. @Jessica: No, I haven't tried that yet but thanks for the suggestion! I'll let you know how it goes :)

@River: I really like NARS Orgasm and MAC Peaches. Orgasm is a shimmery peachy-pink that can come across as frosty, so if you're not into frostiness or you're trying to stay away from too much pink, you might just want to pass on that one. Peaches is a matte peach and even though it's a Sheertone formula, it's not that sheer so if you're really pale, you'll probably want to use a light hand when applying it. It's super pretty, though, and I think it'd flatter most people :)

@Marie: No problem and you too!

@FunnyFaceBeauty: I still pretty much feel the same way about them. I like them because I think they're really affordable and definitely worth the money. She makes so many different colors and all of the eyeshadows I have are gorgeous! There are a few that appear a bit crumbly in the pan and I don't think would travel well because they might break since the shadows are so soft, but they don't look crumbly or chunky at all when you actually use them on your eyes but I do get some fallout.

I initialy had issues with the staying power and I find the best primer for them is UDPP. Over UDPP, they last all day. For me, they don't work as well over paint pots as some of my other eyeshadows do. So yeah. I'd definitely recommend them and they're definitely worth the money :)

  7. Perennial High Style is one of my favorite lip glosses ever! The graphic is looking a mess I've used it so much. >_< I picked up a Burt's Bees lip balm (the original, I remembered!) after your and Vivianna's rec, and you're both so right - it's like magic! I don't like the strong peppermint, tingy thing it has going for it, though - but it's worth it for the effect!
