I ♥ Lavender Lips

I was able to use several products that I got in my swap today, one of them being Barry M Lip Paint in 129 Palest Lavender. When I asked Nicola to get it for me I realized it would probably not suit me that well but would still be a fun color to have in my collection. However, after initially applying it last night, I am absolutely in love with it! If you read my blog you know that I love and am obsessed with a lot of things so any declaration of mine should always be taken with a grain of salt but for now, I love Barry M 129!

I found the lipstick on its own to be a bit drying and the color is opaque. To combat the drying effects I applied my EOS lip balm before the lip paint, but as a result this also sheers the color out a bit. Instead of being an opaque lavender, some of my natural lip color shows through (which is quite pigmented... sometimes very annoying!) making it appear more like a lavender with pink undertones. Much more wearable in my opinion! (Also, I forgot to do swatches on my hand but if any of you would like to see them, just let me know and I'll be happy to oblige!)

Please meet my messy, "I'm too lazy to style it" hair. And please excuse my ginormous forehead :)

Not too shabby, right? The lipstick, that is.

Did you all notice that I don't have any real foundation on? Yay! I hope to be able to keep doing so this summer as long as my skin behaves itself :)

What's your take on lavender lips?

I feel Swap-tastic!

After coming home from shopping for Vegas (only 6 more days!!) with the girls yesterday, I squealed with excitement as I noticed a package waiting for me on the dining room table. Even though it had come a bit earlier than I had anticipated, I knew exactly what it was!

Nicola (Magic's in the Makeup) and I had been planning a swap for the past few weeks as she wanted to try a few things from the US and I wanted to try things from the UK.

Here are all of the amazing things I received!
♥a really sweet note♥
Sleek Storm i-Divine Palette
♥Barry M Lipstick in 129
♥GOSH Nail Lacquer in 546 Rainbow♥
♥No 17 Mirror Shine Lipstick in Nudist Peach♥
♥Girls Aloud Lashes in Cheryl (I think?)♥
♥GOSH Velvet Touch Eyeliner in Bananas♥
Barry M Lipstick in 147
♥Sleek Kajal Eyeliner in Nocturnal♥
Sleek Pout Polish in Pink Cadillac

The bold and italicized products were products that I asked her to get for me, and all of the other products were products that she surprised me with! [Actually, I asked for any Sleek Palette and requested that she choose for me :) ]

The Storm palette had a bit of a rough transit from the UK since the mineral shadows are all very soft and buttery, but I was able to re-press the broken ones yesterday and use the palette today! I was blown away by the pigmentation and quality of the shadows since products like that are hard to come by in drugstores in the US.

I'll be using all of these products in some upcoming posts, so stay tuned if you're interested! And I have a feeling the Girls Aloud lashes will be perfect for my Vegas trip!

Thank you so much, Nicola! If any of you haven't yet checked out her blog Magic's in the Makeup, what are you waiting for?

How to Apply Pigmented Blush (without looking like a clown)

I used to apply all of my blushes with my MAC 129, and I was quite happy doing so. It wasn't until I bought MAC Mineralize Blush in New Vibe from the In the Groove collection that I realized some blushes just couldn't handle such a big brush with dense bristles. When I first applied New Vibe here I looked like a clown! I manically had to powder my face down with my MAC MSF Natural afterwards to tone down the crazy a little bit, but you can still see in the last few pics that the blush was applied much too heavily (for my taste anyway).

I decided to give my MAC 188 a shot the other day, especially since it hasn't gotten much love from me since I purchased it a few months ago. Prior to this I had only been using it to stipple MAC Lustre Drops in Sun Rush to my cheek bones as a golden highlight (which is gorge, by the way!).

Here are 4 easy steps to follow when applying pigmented blush:

Step 1: Choose a pigmented blush and swirl MAC 188 through it.

The coral side of Marine Life is super pigmented and can look a bit much if you're not careful with your application. This is where the MAC 188 comes in. It allows application with much more precision than the 129 and since it's a stippling brush, the bristles are not as densely packed. This means that it will pick up less product when swirled over the blush and deposit less product when swirled over your cheeks.

Step 2: Smile to locate the apples of your cheeks and begin application there.

Step 3: Swirl brush in a circular motion from the apples up to the temples, concentrating more on the apples.

Step 4: Smile and be happy you don't look like a clown :)

The key here to achieving a natural flush rather than clown cheeks is definitely the choice of brush. The 188 is my new go-to brush for bright pigmented blushes, while the 129 still holds a special place in my heart for all of the others (massive shout-out to Well Dressed and Hang Loose!).

How do you apply your blush?

Keep up to date with my mindless rambling on Twitter!

Yes, I really thought that I would never have the desire to open up a Twitter account but alas, I have jumped on the bandwagon. Follow me, won't you? I'd love to follow you too...just let me know your tweetin' name!

Naked FOTD ?!

No, I'm not naked, but I am using Urban Decay's Naked Palette! I am really loving the versatility of this palette. The collection of colors makes it so easy to achieve everything from a really neutral or naked look for daytime to a shimmery smokey look perfect for going out at night! Here was what I came up with yesterday:

Revlon Color Stay foundation in 340 Early Tan
Benefit Boi-ing concealer in 01 Light
MAC Studio Finish SPF35 concealer in NC30
NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder
MAC blush in On a Mission

Kat Von D High Voltage Eye Primer

UD e/s in Virgin
UD 24/7 Eye Pencil in Whiskey (love this!)

NYX l/p in Natural (fill in lips)

Happy Thursday!

Urban Decay Naked Palette

I hurriedly placed my order for the Urban Decay Naked Palette as soon as it made its second appearance online at Sephora last Tuesday (it initially sold out on Sephora after only being available for one day!). As far as I'm aware, it also sold out on Urban Decay's website within the first day it went online. Obviously, there is a lot of hype around this product but rest assured lovelies, the Naked Palette is permanent! Here are some snapshots of this lust-worthy beauty:

The case is brown velvet with gold writing imprinted on it.

It also comes with a double-sided 24/7 eyeliner in Zero and Whiskey and a mini UDPP (not pictured).

Virgin, Sin, Naked, Sidecar, Buck

Half Baked, Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle

Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle, Creep, Gunmetal

24/7 Liner in Zero (top) and Whiskey (bottom)

All of the colors in this palette are shimmery, with the exception of Naked and Buck which are beautiful matte neutrals. Creep and Gunmetal have a bit of fine glitter in them, but it's nothing compared to some of the other glittery messes Urban Decay has released in the past. Gunmetal seems to have more glitter than Creep, but it's really only detectable when you apply the shadow (as in, you can't really see glitter chunks in the pan) and I didn't notice any fallout whatsoever. And I think it's worth a mention that all of the shadows in this palette are full-sized! A single eyeshadow from UD will set you back $17, but you get 12 of them and more in this palette for less than the cost of 3 single eyeshadows! Now that is a steal!

As I'm sure you can see from the swatches, most of these colors are anything but naked! They are smooth, pigmented, and the shades range from tans to golds to greys. It's the perfect neutral palette that allows you to achieve every kind of look from daytime to nighttime, matte to shimmery, and subtle to dramatic.

As for the 24/7 liners, Zero is a fantastic inky black that should be a staple in every girl's makeup collection. Whiskey is a new gorgeous, rich brown shade that is shimmer-free. 24/7 liners glide on effortlessly and last all day on me. Zero is one of my all time favorites for use on the waterline.

At this very moment, the Naked Palette is out of stock on both Urban Decay's website and Sephora's website. You can sign up for email alerts from both websites if you're dying to get your hands on one, or you can wait another week or so for Sephora stores to get their stock in and buy it in-stores. It retails for $44 USD and remember, it is permanent so there's really no need to rush into anything now...unless you're obsessed with makeup like yours truly ;)

☼Summer Essentials☼

We are well into summer now and I've decided it's only fitting to post about my summer essentials...

Let's start off with makeup essentials:
Top: Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, MAC Cheeky Bronze MSF, Revlon Color Stay Foundation
Middle: MUFE Aqua Cream #16, Eyeko Mascara, Liplicious Tasty Lip Color in Whipped Vanilla
Bottom: MAC MSFN in Medium Plus

♥Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer♥ This is a mineral based primer with SPF 15, a necessity when out in the sun! I've taken pictures with it on before and I've never noticed what I like to call the "geisha-effect" from it having SPF. It helps my foundation and concealer to stay on my face in the midst of all of the heat and sweat, as well as to keep my oily skin at bay.

♥MAC MSF in Cheeky Bronze and MSF Natural in Medium Plus♥ I like to use Cheeky Bronze as a pinky bronze blush mostly, but when used with a light hand on tanned skin, it can also work as a shimmery bronzer. A light dusting of Medium Plus is essential to help control my oily skin.

♥Revlon Color Stay Foundation in 340 Early Tan♥ This foundation is great for summertime because it really lasts all day! It can feel a bit heavy, though, and when I'm having a relatively "good skin" day, I like to mix about 1/2 the normal amount with my moisturizer and apply it as a tinted moisturizer.

♥MUFE Aqua Cream #16♥ A waterproof cream eye and cheek product? Yes, please! While I've only used this on my eyes when I'm going for a quick 5 minute face look, I'd imagine it would also be pretty when used sparingly as a cheek highlight as well. Multipurpose products that will last on your face are essential in this kind of weather.

♥Eyeko Mascara♥ I love this mascara! While it's not the best at giving volume, it does a great job at lengthening lashes while giving the glossiest black color your lashes have ever seen! It also has vitamins in it meant to promote lash growth. And while it's not waterproof, I find it does not smudge or budge at all throughout the day! You can use my Ambassador Code, E9565, to receive a free gift when ordering from Eyeko.

♥Liplicious Tasty Lip Color in Whipped Vanilla♥ In the summer I don't like to use lipsticks as much because I find that they tend to slip and slide off of my lips in extreme heat. I still want a little color on my lips, though, so I usually opt for a tinted lip gloss. Whipped Vanilla looks like a unexciting pinky brown color in the tube but it gives the perfect shimmery pink color on your lips! Not brown at all and it smells delicious!

Now for my skincare essentials:
Top: Aveeno Clear Complexion Moisturizer, Burt's Bees Replenishing Lip Balm, MAC Fix+
Bottom: L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Lotion, Victoria's Secret Violet & Jasmine Moisture Mist

♥Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer♥ A moisturizer is a must, even if you feel like your skin is oily enough as it is. This moisturizer is oil-free and has salicylic acid in it to help clear break-outs. The only downside is that it does not have SPF so you'll need to use it in conjunction with an SPF product.

♥Burt's Bees Replenishing Lip Balm♥ I didn't include this with my makeup essentials because I hardly think lip balm is makeup. I love this lip balm because it smells great, is 100% natural, and it has pomegranate oil in it that infuses your lips with a subtle pomegranate tint.

♥MAC Fix+♥ Perfect for hot, summer days when your skin needs a little pick-me-up. I use this in the morning to set my makeup and throughout the day as needed to refresh my makeup.

♥L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion♥ The word lotion is somewhat misleading as I feel this is more of a gel, really. The tinted gel allows you to see exactly where you're applying the tanner, and it rubs in really easily. It doesn't smell half as bad as other self-tanners out there, and it doesn't take any longer than normal to dry. I should warn you, though, that it is extremely shimmery and makes you look like you've dusted yourself with shimmer powder and you're ready for a night on the town! This may or may not be your cup of tea...As for me, I don't mind so much :)

♥Victoria's Secret Violet & Jasmine Fragrant Moisture Mist♥ I generally turn towards mists for the daytime and save my perfumes for nighttime as I feel some perfumes may be a little heavy for summer. This one smells beautiful and ultra-florally, just the way I like it :) It doesn't have alcohol in it like most body mists do, but I'm not sure it's exactly moisturizing either.

Last but not least, my summer nail essentials:

Essie Mod Squad, Essie California Coral

I'll admit that I have a slight Essie obsession at the moment, and these two surely aren't helping the situation at all. They're gorgeous for summer! Both are bright, shimmer-free, and are perfect for both fingers and toes.

What are some of your summer essentials?

Jungle Cat Eyes

This is what happens when I'm bored:

[None of the closed-eye pics came out very well, but you get the idea ;)]

I literally did my whole face up, took the pictures, then immediately wiped it all off with makeup wipes to go to bed. Too much free time, I think :)

♥ Pink Lippies ♥

Pale pink is my go-to color for my lips. It never lets me down and it goes with everything! Here are some of my favorite pink lipsticks...
(All are MAC)
♥Viva Glam Gaga♥
♥Lazy Day (LE)♥
♥Pretty Please♥

Viva Glam Gaga is a little too blue-based for my skin tone, but I'm so in love with the color that I force it to work on me :) Lazy Day and Angel are practically the same, with the main difference being their formulation. Lazy Day is a bit more blue-based and is a Lustre, while Angel works a bit better for warmer tones and is a Frost. Definitely dupe-worthy :) And Pretty Please is a pearly pink color that is best under a more pigmented gloss since it doesn't pack much color on its own.

Some swatches...

Depending on the color of your lipstick and the color of your lipgloss, a gloss can either complement your lipstick or change the color drastically. In most cases, I prefer my gloss to complement my lipstick. Here are a few of my favorite glosses to pair with my pale pink lipsticks...
(Left to Right)
♥Bonne Bell Lip Lites in Strawberry Parfait♥
♥MAC Lipglass in Florabundance♥
♥MAC Plushglass in Ample Pink♥
♥NYX Round Lipgloss in Pink♥
♥NYX Round Lipgloss in Ballerina Pink♥

Bonne Bell Strawberry Parfait smells exactly as you would think (delish!) and the milky pink color is perfect over any pale pink lipstick. MAC Florabundance is a peachy-pink nude that tends to mute the color a bit, making it a little more peachy than pink. MAC Ample Pink may be a little dark for some, but the color is actually pretty close to my natural lip color. I especially love it layered over MAC Viva Glam VI SE (not pictured because it's not a pale pink lipstick) because the two are very complementary. When layered over a pale pink lipstick, it tends to add some mauve-y color to it. NYX Pink and Ballerina Pink work the same as MAC Ample Pink in adding a little more color to paler pink lipsticks, especially NYX Pink.

Top to bottom: Florabundance, Strawberry Parfait, Ample Pink, Pink, Ballerina Pink

Top to bottom: Florabundance, Strawberry Parfait, Ample Pink

My favorite combo at the moment would have to be MAC Angel with Bonne Bell Strawberry Parfait layered on top :)

What is your favorite pink lippy?

MAC Hang Loose Mineralize Blush Dupe.

So I did say a few posts ago that I would experiment with MAC Well Dressed blush to see if it could be a suitable dupe for Hang Loose. Here is what I found:

Top: Well Dressed
Bottom: Hang Loose (mixed)
Well Dressed is pinker and darker, while Hang Loose is shimmery and paler when mixed with the lavender side.

While they are very close, they're not exactly the same and I knew I could do better. So I brought in MAC MSF in Perfect Topping and MAC Pigment in Vanilla to see if I could make Well Dressed paler and more shimmery to look more like Hang Loose. Here is what I found:

Left to Right: Well Dressed, Perfect Topping, Hang Loose, Vanilla

Top: Well Dressed with Vanilla Pigment dusted on top
Middle: Well Dress with Perfect Topping MSF dusted on top
Bottom: Hang Loose (mixed)

Can you tell a difference between the three? They're practically the same but if I had to choose the better dupe, I'd say that Well Dressed and Vanilla Pigment take the cake! Vanilla pigment replicates the frostiness of Hang Loose a smidge better than Perfect Topping does, but they really are the same, more or less.

So there you have it, lovelies. If you have Well Dressed and either Vanilla Pigment, Perfect Topping MSF, or any other frosty white highlight shade, you can save your hard-earned $23 or if you're like me, spend it on something else ;)  I have my eye on you, Happy Together Mineralize Blush!

Boyfriend Jeans, but not my boyfriend's jeans.

I got a pair of boyfriend jeans last week and I can't stop wearing them! They're just ridiculously comfortable! They are pretty distressed so it would be difficult to dress them up too much, but here is my attempt at a put-together-look wearing boyfriend jeans:
Striped top: TJ Maxx
Boyfriend jeans: Levi's
Gold sandals: Banana Republic
Necklace: Banana Republic

Ring: Forever 21
Bracelet: H&M
Nail polish: Essie Turquoise and Caicos

I also got around to using my MAC New Vibe Mineralize Blush yesterday, and my initial thoughts were that the pigmentation is crazy! The color itself is already on the darker end of the blush spectrum for me and when you factor in the intense pigmentation, you really have to apply this blush with a very light hand. For fairer skinned ladies, I'd probably avoid New Vibe altogether.
