♥ May Favorites ♥

Happy Memorial Day to all of my U.S. readers! In tradition of the last day of the month, here are my May favorites:

Clockwise from left: LUSH Ocean Salt, Illamasqua Bronzing Duo,
MAC blush in Peaches, MAC Fix+,
MAC MSF in Soft & Gentle, MAC lipglass in C-thru

♥ LUSH Ocean Salt: One of the best exfoliators I've come across in a long time. I used to use Kate Somerville's Exfolikate but at $85 a tub, it was becoming too expensive for me. I use Ocean Salt every other day, sometimes everyday if necessary, on my face and occasionally my body. It makes my skin super soft and has helped to keep breakouts at bay. If you missed it, you can read my review here.

♥ Illamasqua Bronzing Duo in Glint & Burnish: I haven't been using Glint (highlighter shade) as much since getting my MAC MSF in Soft & Gentle, but it's still nice to have for convenience purposes since you can carry a highlighter and bronzer in one compact. Burnish has been a fantastic bronzer for my skintone, not too shimmery or matte, and I find myself reaching for it everyday to make my face look less pastey.

♥ MAC Sheertone Blush in Peaches: I'm not going to say too much about this since I think I've made it pretty clear that I love it! (You still have time to enter to win one in my giveaway.)

♥ MAC Fix+: I've been using this as a finishing step by spritzing a few pumps all over my face to set my makeup. I usually just spritz and go but if I find that my face feels a little too wet, I'll stipple it in with my MAC 188 brush. I'm excited to pick up some MAC Mineralize eyeshadows from this coming July's In The Groove collection in which I'll be able to use Fix+ to foil them to intensify the color.

♥ MAC MSF in Soft & Gentle: This is my first MSF and it's the perfect highlight color. It applies ridiculously smoothly and the shimmer is to die for!

♥ MAC Lipglass in C-Thru: This can be paired with a nude lippie like MAC Creme d'Nude for a perfect nude pout or with a vibrant shade of lipstick (I'm loving Chanel Rouge Allure in Genial) to tone down the brightness while still allowing the color to show through. I'm definitely a fan of versatility in my beauty products. This gets an A+ from me!

What were some of your favorites in the month of May?

Sunday's Floral OOTD...and NARS Pleasures of Paris FOTD

It's no secret I love florals. I had an inspiration post on them a while ago and have you seen my blog background? I. LOVE. FLORALS. Here's my outfit of the day featuring one of my favorite skirts that I completely forgot about and recently rediscovered while packing up my apartment to move:

Cream tank: Target
Floral skirt: Forever 21
Belt: Banana Republic
Sandals: Nordstrom Rack

And I finally got the chance to use my NARS Pleasures of Paris palette:

Revlon Photo Ready foundation in 005 Natural Beige
Benefit Boi-ing Concealer in 02 Medium
MUFE HD Microfinish Powder
MAC Marine Life Highlight Powder (blush)
MAC Lustre Drops in Sun Rush (cheekbone highlight)

MAC l/s Blooming Lovely
Revlon Super Lustrous l/g in Lilac Pastelle

What is everyone up to this fine Memorial Day weekend?

I Was One of the Lucky Ones :)

I was so excited for MAC's To The Beach collection because I knew I wanted the Marine Life Highlight Powder. After seeing swatches online, the beautiful coral-ly goodness just had to be  mine. I wasn't really bummed out at all when it sold out online Monday after only being available for 2-3 hours because I had always intended on buying it in-store the morning of the launch.

My local MAC store opened at 10am Thursday morning, and I was there about 10 minutes early just to be safe. When I got inside I hurried over to the MUA and asked for the Marine Life Highlight Powder before even looking at the rest of the collection (everything else could wait!). To my surprise, she told me that they unexpectedly got the collection a day earlier and were completely sold out of Marine Life. My initial reactions were those of shock...then slight sadness (Hey, I love makeup, ok?!). She also told me that all of the MACs in my city were completely sold out. Not quite believing her since it was only 10am the morning of the launch, I called up my secret MAC...the MAC counter at my school. Thank goodness because they had 1 left and now it's mine!!

I also picked up a few other goodies from the collection:

Thrills lipstick, Marine Life Highlight Powder, Sun Rush Lustre Drops, Splashing Lipglass

Thrills, Splashing, Marine Life, Sun Rush

(Under different lighting)

I forgot and used it before taking pictures :/ (Makeup fail!)

So far I'm really loving Marine Life. It's definitely worth the hype, in my opinion. It has great pigmentation so those with fairer skin should apply this with a light hand. The coral will be beautiful for summer!

Did you guys pick up anything from this collection?

A Makeup Addict's First MSF

Considering the fact that I am more or less obsessed with makeup (and MAC for that matter), I was embarrassed that I had never owned or used a MAC Mineralize Skinfinish...until now. I visited my local MAC store a few days ago to pick up some brushes and was lured into the MSF display. I walked away with Soft & Gentle, a beautiful peachy bronze.

I am in love with this product! I really can't believe I had been missing out this whole time!
It's absolutely perfect for helping to achieve a golden glow to the skin. The shimmer is extremely fine and not gritty at all which allows the powder to apply to a flawlessly smooth finish. I can't wait to add to my MSF collection :)

Makeup Rut: Avoiding Purples

I realized yesterday that my "safe" color in makeup is purple. Whenever in doubt, I always go for purple eye makeup. It feels less boring than brown neutrals since I can say that at least I'm "wearing color". However, I rotate between the same few purple shadows (Sketch, Plum Dressing, Trax, Beautiful Iris, etc.) every time I do this that eventually I start to think that boring old neutrals would be more exciting than my purple eye looks. This is my attempt at using a few different shadows in my collection, paying careful attention to avoid any shades that even remotely resemble purple...

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
Revlon Photo Ready Foundation in 005 Natural Beige
Benefit Boi-ing Concealer in 02 Medium
MUFE HD Microfinish Powder
MAC blush in Peaches (Would you like the opportunity to win your very own Peaches? Enter my giveaway!)
MAC blush in Light Over Dark (light side only, dusted on top of Peaches)

MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre
MAC e/s in Goldmine (lid)
MAC e/s in Coppering (blended from crease)
MAC e/s in Contrast (crease)
MAC e/s in Dazzlelight (eyebrow bone and tear duct)
Milani Liquif'eye Eye Pencil in Black
Maybelline Define-a-Lash in Blackest Black

MAC l/s in Creme d'Nude
MAC l/g in C-thru

Whoa! Can you say Bad Hair Day?

Even I'm shocked I don't have purple on :D

What is your "safe" makeup color? What colors do you use to spice up your looks?

Not Bad, Rimmel. Not Bad at All.

I figured I'd post this NOTD since it was actually from over a week ago.

The color is called Steel Grey although I thought it looked most like a taupey grey. When I asked my bf what he thought the color looked like, he answered with a confused "Um, a weird purpley color?" Gotta love boys. I'm not sure the color screams Spring or Summer, but I love it nonetheless. And when I walked into Sephora the other day, one of the associates turned to me and said, "I just love Metro Chic!" and I just smiled knowing that my polish was 1/3 of the price :)

It's Never Too Late!

Being a beauty blogger, it's really hard to hear about new products on the beauty blog circuit and not want to go out and give them a try. You can see a lot of "sneak peeks" of new products before they are available to see if you might be interested in them or not, and you'll also know the launch date of when you can finally go out and pick them up. Every now and again I have enough self-control to not buy something I've been lusting over. I'm able to convince myself that, no, I don't need every makeup product that is made available to me. I end up feeling really proud of myself for not giving in to every product that is a beauty blog rave. This was the case with the NARS Pleasures of Paris palette. Until now.

Top (L to R): Nepal, Violetta, Demon Lover
Bottom (L to R): Fez, Abyssinia, Cordura

Nepal: Rose with shimmer
Violetta: Smoky lavender
Demon Lover: Matte violet
Fez: Velvety cocoa
Abyssinia: Delicate pearl sheen
Cordura: Shimmery dark brown

Somebody decided almost a year later that she needs this palette! (cough cough) She first checked Sephora but since it came out such a long time ago, Sephora had stopped carrying it already. She then took it upon herself to make her personal mission to hunt one down. Turns out, it really wasn't all that difficult! One look on the NARS website and there it was. And the rest is makeup history...

It's things like this that happen that really reiterate how addicted I am to makeup. Like really? I couldn't let it go? I had to go back almost a year later and hunt one down? Was there never going to be another palette that would suit my fancy? Sigh.

I haven't had the chance to use it yet but I am loving the colors. Here are some swatches without a base because I forgot. Also, I think the skin color on my arm is a little too dark and so you can't really see the lighter colors very well. Rest assured, I will post FOTD pics when I use this and I'm sure you'll be able to see all the colors much better :)

Have any of you guys ever been "late" to buying a beauty product?

I've Been Tagged!

I was tagged by LovelyViolet5 to reveal the 8th photo in the 8th folder on my computer and here it is:

This photo was taken in the Summer of 2007, I believe at Balboa Beach in Newport Beach, California. My best friend and I were feeling silly that day...Can you guess why we took this photo? ;)

The second tag, also from LovelyViolet5, consists of 12 questions...

1.What shoe size are you?
US 7-7.5

2.Where do you work?
I work as a full-time student until Sunday when I graduate!!! I also work part-time as a server in a restaurant.

3.Favorite piece of clothing you own?

My graduation dress: Zac Posen for Target. (It's much more beautiful in real life!)

4.Your favorite blog?
I have so many favorites that I can't narrow it down to just one, I'm afraid. I enjoy reading blogs that are fun, honest, and genuine.

5.Do you have any pets?
Not yet, but I kind of consider my bf's boston terrier puppy my own :)

6.How many siblings do you have?
One older brother and one younger sister.

7.If you could live anywhere were would it be?
Here! I love to travel but I can't imagine living anywhere else.

8.What were you doing before this?
I've been a full-time student since kindergarten :/ No, but seriously, before working as a server I used to work in retail and before that, at a children's daycare.

9.Your favorite food?
Sushi! Salmon nigiri and spicy scallop rolls to be exact!

10.Do you have a middle name?
Yes, it's my Vietnamese name :)

11.Your favorite websites?
Blogs (duh!), Sephora, Anthropologie, Youtube, and too many more!

12.Who do you tag?

There you have it! Hope you all are having a fantastic day :)

So Happy...Oh So Happy!

I've reached 100 followers and I just want to thank each and every one of you for reading my blog and leaving me the sweetest comments. I've always loved makeup (of course!) but blogging has really provided me with an outlet to share my passion, learn from others, and meet great friends.

Over the next week I will make time to go out shopping for a few goodies for my first giveaway (Yay!). I had mixed feelings on whether or not I wanted to host a giveaway because while I would love to spread the word about WillWorkForMakeup and have more interested followers, I have no desire to simply increase my number of followers with people who could care less about my blog. After all, the whole point of the giveaway is to thank my followers...not just give away free goodies to some random person who will never read my blog again.

Even though I had my doubts, I obviously have decided to host a giveaway anyways because I truly am grateful for each and every one of my followers. I will have more details on the giveaway around the middle of next week so be on the lookout!

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!

Non-Beauty Finds...

I received some early graduation money from my parents last week and decided to put a smile on my I-don't-want-to-study-for-finals face by making a few purchases. Since MAC's To the Beach collection will be released in a week and a half, I've decided to hold out on any more beauty purchases until then.

Here's what I picked up:
Cute for summer. TJ Maxx.

Mint and cream nautical-esque top. TJ Maxx.

I needed more going out tops. TJ Maxx.

I LOVE the detailing around the bust!

Love me some buttons :) Forever 21.

A possible outfit...

Chanel inspired bag. Forever 21.

While wearing the fuschia headband my sister was kind enough to let me know that I looked like Minnie Mouse :)

The bows are huge but I love them! Forever 21

Rings. Left from Forever 21; Right from Target.

I only have 6 more days until I graduate from college! AAHHHH! I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself! What were your latest non-beauty finds?

LUSH Rock Star Soap Review

LUSH describes Rock Star soap as a bubblegum scented soap that is as sweet as rock candy and scented with vanilla absolute. I normally hate the smell of bubblegum but I took a chance and purchased this soap because it had so many good reviews on the LUSH website and on beauty blogs and I'm so happy that I did! Yes, it does smell like bubblegum but so much better! I'd say it smells half like traditional pink bubblegum and half like candy! I don't know if describing it as smelling like candy means anything to anyone (Candy? Well what candy does it smell like?), but I can't really put my finger on the exact scent at the moment I'm afraid. While I find the fragrance intoxicating, it can be quite overwhelming if you aren't used to it. For example, I unwrapped it and left the whole slab on my bathroom counter (my bathroom is attached to my bedroom) and within a few minutes my whole room smelled like I had lit a Rock Star Soap candle! A 3.5 oz. slab (this word kind of grosses me out) retails for $7.95.

How do I use this?
If you read my previous post on the Honey I Washed the Kids soap, I can tell you I use this soap the same way (cutting off a piece and using it directly on my skin). The smell is much more fragrant than Honey I Washed the Kids and it tends to linger for a bit on my skin after my shower. I've also found that it has great lather and therefore glides ever so smoothly over my skin. My skin also feels quite moisturized afterwards which is a rarity in the bar soap world, isn't it?

Would I purchase this again?
Absolutely! It smells divine, and I have to say that I've been thoroughly impressed with LUSH as of late!

Would I recommend it?
Yes if you like bubblegummy scents and can tolerate strong fragrances. I tend to be sensitive to a lot of scents (strong scents give me terrible headaches) but I was fine with this one. Overall, it's a very girly and pretty soap to have in one's shower :)

-strong bubblegum/candy scent that is amazing!
-good lather
-pretty moisturizing
-glides very smoothly over skin

So I am LOVING LUSH at the moment. On my wishlist are the Heavanilli Massage Bar, Mange Too Massage Bar, Flying Fox Shower Gel, and Porridge Soap. Are any of you out there LUSH connoisseurs and want to recommend a few must-have products for me to try? I'm all ears.

LUSH Honey I Washed the Kids Soap Review

This soap smells AMAZING! Lush says that it's toffee scented but if I hadn't known (which I didn't when I first got it) I would've said it smelled like a mixture of caramel, brown sugar, and honey. It's pretty fragrant but not overwhelming. Sadly, I didn't find the scent to linger after my shower and I actually really wish it would last longer on my skin because I love it! It costs $7.95 for 3.5 oz.

How do I use it?
I first cut the bar of soap into four pieces. I then take out one piece to use and wrap up the remaining pieces and place them in a ziploc baggy. (And if anybody's wondering, I've gotten quite a few showers out of the first piece I cut off.) I'm not sure if some people use bar soap differently (maybe rubbing the soap into a loofah?) but I just use it directly on my skin. It has minimal lather but glides across the skin quite smoothly. It makes your whole shower smell like caramel...YUM! And while I did not find it to be moisturizing (bar soaps rarely are anyhow), I did not find it particularly drying either.

Would I purchase this again?
Yes! At first I thought $7.95 was kind of pricey for a bar of soap, but I'm just now finishing up my first piece that I cut off so I imagine I'll get quite a bit of usage out of it. And the smell will keep me coming back for a long time!

Would I recommend it?
Yes. I don't believe it has any ingredients that would irritate most people's skin. If you don't generally prefer sweet scents or you MUST have a soap that produces a lot of suds, I'd maybe skip it. Otherwise, I imagine most people would love this just as much as I do :)

-Smells deliciously amazing!
-Glides smoothly over skin
-Does not dry out skin like other bar soaps can

What do you guys think? Are you as in love with it as I am?
